I have a set ready to go, I just need to rename them and see how they actually look when the game is released tomorrow.

I believe ICY will be working on some as well as other members.

Can anyone host these somewhere, so we can all go to one place to get them?

Should be interesting with the huge amount of space we have to work with. Way to go Jim!! :)

Here's a sample of set 1:

Just as a heads up, the logos actually correspond to cities rather than teams. You can, no doubt, use just a set of 32, named properly. But you can have up to 168 of them, just in case teams move or you want to change city/team affiliations.

I like the look of those MizzouRah, having those nice big logos is another nice boost to the player cards, with the new history and honors and stats on there, those are getting really nice.

Jim can you for a future patch/update add something like this? I'm going to use fake code as i'm not a C++ programer but at least that you can see what do i mean.

Right now the system i guess is something like:

The logo box has a field for an image source, something like:

IF exists city_name.jpg
ELSE

Now the system i propose:

If exists player_name_surname.jpg
ELSE IF exists city_name.bmp
ELSE

If the game is not storing the players name_surname as a key index, then i guess each player has a numerical ID so it could be made:

If exists player_ID.bmp
ELSE IF exists city_name.bmp
ELSE

That way the game will look first if exits a pic asigned to that special player (great for us to add real or fictional players photo packs.). If it's not found, then load the city_name.jpg (Team logo) and if it doesn't exist either, then load the default logo (just to avoid crashes when non logo is made for that team/city).

Not trying to teach the boss anything, just suggesting stuff :)

LOL Sack, He is wearing Griese's shirt because it's a pick i made for the NAFL where i have Griese in the Dolphins, of course would put the correct name for every player :)

For my incoming logo pack, do you guys like something like this using a general team picture? Of course right now all the players would have the same picture as the pictures are asigned to a city instead of a player.

I think it would be better to have only the logo and team name, no general picture, but that's just me. It might be a little confusing/distracting to see a picture of a QB when you're looking at a defensive lineman, for instance.

Nice pictures there, if it was a really advanced modpack they could show Harrington in a couple of years, playing golf in some low level pro-am or sitting behind a desk running a failing promotional business.

I think Harrington will follow the Shuler route and run for congress in 5-10 years, after his career has finally been put to sleep.

Well... yes if you have a full body pick with the team uniform. If you just use a face pick that wouldn't be necesary as it will always remain the same. It all depends on the work you want to do and how well looking do you want the pics.

Man, think of the upkeep for something like that.

I'm trying to think of this from a multiplayer standpoint...say a team changes owners, but doesn't move the team, just renames it. I'm pretty sure we haven't changed the city affiliations in the past - we just renamed the city. I'm guessing there would be a case here for actually changing the team/city affiliation now, yes?

This is why, as I said in the other thread, someone would almost have to develop some kind of tool for this that could could splice teamlogox + playerx together...

I don't know how feasible that would be, or but it seems like it would be necessary.

I'm also thinking from looking at historical pages, Wade.

First go here:
http://www.thefofl.com/league/schedule.php

Then use the dropdown to go to 2003:
http://www.thefofl.com/league/schedule.php?w=16&y=2003

You'll see different logos there, ones that reflected the teams that were in the league at the time. But if you click on DES for instance, it takes you to the page for the "2003 South Carolina" team. Well, there was no 2003 SCA team. So I'm talking about something like that.

(This is actually something I could and *should* fix, as I keep a fofl_team_history table, with one of the columns the 3 letter abbreviation. For the schedule and standings scripts, I am grabbing the year-specific abbreviation, which is built into the image name. Haven't made that adjustment for the various team info pages...on my to-do list I guess. Of course, then I will also need to figure out how to do color schemes, which right now are in another table containing info on just the *current* teams. I either need to key off of abbr for colors and put defunct teams in that table, or I need to carry color info for each year. That would serve some utility too, as teams like Hudson Valley (http://www.thefofl.com/teampages/summary.php?t=31) or Fall River (http://www.thefofl.com/teampages/summary.php?t=13) have stayed with the same abbreviation, but have changed nicknames/color schemes.)

Interesting... that's not how the IHOF works, so I hadn't thought about it ;)...

In an ideal world, maybe this is something down the world that Jim could do...

perhaps have a "split" screen option there... where half the logo is a team logo, and half is the player logo... that way, the team logo that is displayed can be controlled by the team? This wouldnt' fix the situation of the players jersey, but could help?

cuervo72
10-27-2006, 09:05 AM
I think you should just forget about the players, personally. There are just too many of them. Even in IHOF, we only care about what, 5% of them?

And you're right, that isn't how IHOF works. But look at Seth Dwight...says he was drafted by Astoria, but you just see WIL in the stats. That's not really correct, is it? :) Basically, I don't want some bits of team history to be lost, I like to keep traces of them around. Just takes a few workarounds.

(And for franchise tracking, I'm mainly worried about franchises, not player logos, which should be the most current anyway. So really I guess it's a bit of a different conversation, as you probably don't see those logos anywhere else anyway.)

It may not have sounded like it, but I was agreeing with you - I was saying what you do at the FOFL is a cool feature that I never thought about since IHOF doesn't do it.

Anyway, I think in the end this probably does appeal to a small audience. Even with IHOF I don't know that I'd bother with this if the web site can still do what does... I think I'm just talking pie in the sky of how what Icy is talking about could be more manageable.

That's actually my big worry for FOFL. We rely on Interrogator for the stats to fuel the site...really hoping Greg (or someone) can get to the data just as easily (not to say it was *easy*, but you get my drift) or that there is some other option.

I'm very nervous about the effect on leagues like FOFL and IHOF also...

I would really like to see screens of the MP HTML output for sure..

I'll have my set done tonight after I get home from work - can't wait to see how they look in the game... there's so much you can do with all that space, ala ICY! Those look nice!!!

That'll be on my list eventually. It'll be more of a focus come time to convert. I'll have to think of how I want to do it too - just the logos and if so what size, or some view of the helmet (like was done with the below FOFL avatar sample, but larger).
