I sent a bug report to solecsmic. the game is currently unplayable. It obviously wasn't tested very good.
also I see no mention anywhere on expansion. Am i the only one that wanted it? Lack of it is pretty much a single player game killer for me.

Actually you can work around this. You have to not sign anyone through the draft. After that you can renegotiate anyone.

I'm playing the game just fine. In fact all the bug does is mean that there is less need for house rules. It's a major bug and annoying but not exactly a show-stopper.
No you're not the only one who wanted expansion, although, personally, I don't see the big deal with it. I think anything that will change the league set-up and schedules is on a very low priority and won't be implemented.
Or do what Warhammer said, which is pretty smart. Although that doesn't help if you're over cap even without the draftees.

"You have to not sign anyone through the draft"
i dont understand this. I haven't even incurred a draft yet.
just to be clear i simmd the 1st season, that had no draft or fa period. I finished the season. Skipped forward through to FA. Now i'm stuck. I haven't even seen a draft yet.

No offense, but if this is a "single player game killer" for you, then why did you buy the game? Did you not read the feature list before you purchased the game?

Typically, Jim takes in all the bugs and releases a patch when everything has been fixed satisfactory to his standards.
He doesn't release 10 patches fixing little things here and there, so you'll just have to wait a bit. I will say, when he does release the first patch, you can almost be 100% sure the game will be quite stable and most everything fixed - or at least looked at and given an explanation on why it is in the game.

no offense taken, i bought the game for my mp league. I quit single player a long time ago because without expansion it got boring. I was hoping to play it again (and enjoy it) in single player mode. I mean the code can't be that difficult, it was there before.
To me removing code (the expansion code was there at one time) was just a bad decision. The code worked well. Most programmers don't as a rule REMOVE potential playing hours from a game. Mp leagues must move slow, and it gives the customer chance to play the game more. But it's his decision.....
Thanks Mizz. I'm a programmer, so I am hip. I just consider this a game stopper. I was a bit bitchy because I wasn't aware of a workaraound. Although I don't understand it....

Gotcha. I'd love to have expansion and customizable league sizes, too, fwiw. I think it would be a boon to the game because it would really open things up for historical replay and on-line leagues which can't scrape together 32 peeps.
Maybe I am just getting old though, but I am learning to not let perfect be the enemy of the very good...

Didn't Jim have to basically start from scratch after the problems with EA? I might be thinking out loud on this one.
Also, I can see why he's stayed with 32 teams. The schedule works and works well, because it's completely spelled out by the league and you only to make 8-10 templates and your scheduling is done. Add a 33rd team (or 34), and you change the dynamic drastically. I think his focus is on the engine and improving the simulation of professional football. To devote hours upon hours to every scenario would have probably meant a FOF2004 with expansion to be release.
While I think expansion would be neat, the fact that you can move teams to different locations satisfies that need for me (though in not quite the same manner).

Excellent quote, Sub, especially when you consider the absolute slop that other developers give you.

Ok i think i get it. Sorry, It's early (for me anyway).
"actually you can work around this. You have to not sign anyone through the draft. After that you can renegotiate anyone."
ok, so do i just move through the draft without any renegotations? Then resign all my players after draft? Will I get penalized draft picks? I don't care just want to prepare.

I just cut enough scrubs to get over my cap problems and finally was able to resign one guy and save some money, then another, then another, then all of a sudden I had 11 mil cap to use. Most of the guys I cut were easily replaced through free agency anyway and didn't have a bonus tied up. I think I lost 170k cap in the process.

Not to be obtuse, but what bug is this we're talking about? I've been renegotiating contracts just fine? Or is this some specific case?

I believe if you are over the cap, you can't renegotiate to get under. You can only cut guys, then once you get under you can start renegotiation. It's a show stopper for me right now. But that's fine, I'm just monkeying around to the next patch which based on past history will come soon and will take care of the issue.

1) Start FA.
2) Skip all Early FA Stages
3) Draft - you don't lose any picks. That occurs the next season if you don't get under the cap.
4) Start late FA
5) Renegotiate players
6) Sign rookies
7) Sign FAs
8) Run TC and start season
It sucks, but right now just getting used to all the gameplanning options, this isn't my major career yet so skipping one FA a couple of years in isn't going to kill me.
Also, will people get over the lack of expansion? We get it, the fact that we've had one expansion is most people's lives that are playing the game is killing it for them. The way I look at it, there are fewer teams that can be exploited and less dilution of talent, which makes it harder for the player to win. My .02 and rant.

I've gone through step 4, but still can't get step 5 to work. I'm in week 1 of late free agency and don't want to advance past it. Anyone else have this problem? I'm 13 million over the cap. I'll have to cut some superstars..
OK, NEVERMIND! It worked when I picked a guy who had a lot of years left on his contract. It didn't work for renegotiating guys with only a year left, but possibly I wasn't carefully noting that the cost truly was going to be lower. I think that's what I saw, but I'm often wrong about really simple things just like this..
