Starter's playing time

I like to call my own plays. When I do this, are my backups getting playing time based on the "Starter's playing time" screen? It looks like I can substitute my backups from the "Backfield Depth Chart" during the game. Will the computer take my starting running back out based on these settings or are those "skill" players playing time controlled by me with the "Backfield Depth Chart" screen?

I believe you have to make your own substitutions.

What about my offensive line and defense? Do they automatically substitute?
