I'm sure most of you are interested to know that XM has started up an channel called Oprah and Friends. Great! I'm glad she has the opportunity to make more money. Lord only knows she doesn;t have enough for 100 lifetimes.
I especially enjoy listening to her silly ass commercials while I am listening to ESPN radio. I'm not an advertising genius or anything. So, I may not know what the hell I'm talking about.
Advertising this channel on ESPN doesn't make any sense to me. There's probably more folks listening to ESPN that are like me, annoyed by these commercials, than folks who are thinking "Oh! Oh! Oh! I've got to listen to that."
Since it is one XM station advertising another, I'm not sure how all of the money works out. Can this really be an effective use of the advertising dollar? There can't be that many people who listen to the ESPN station that are interested in listening to Oprah on the freaking radio.
Now, I'm not against the whole idea. Fine, give the richest woman in America more money and a radio station. I'm all for it. Just don't advertise the damn thing on a station that is focused primarily on men who couldn't possibly be interested in her crap.
Maybe it wouldn't bother me so much if they didn't have her on there promoting it with her singing silly sentences and adding her wisdom.
"If you want to call into my show, dial 555-OPRAH. And if you're like me and can't tell which number is the O, P, R, A, or H, then it is 555-67724! Oprah and Friiiiiieeeeeeeeeennnnnnddddddddsssssssssss! Friends and Oprrrraaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Call me!"
Guh!

I have XM, I know about the channel, and I don't even know what channel number it is. I've never heard a commercial for it on any other channel I listen to (although XM Comedy repeatedly promotes the Ellen DeGeneres show...), including ESPN.
If you don't want to listen, fine, then don't. Why would you get worked up about something you can control? It's like people bitching about how bad music on the radio is. Why, then, are you listening to it?

I want to listen to ESPN radio. I just don't see why they're advertising Oprah on ESPN. It makes no sense to me.

I thought the whole point about paying for digital radio is that you no longer have to listen to commercials.

Never heard a commercial for Oprah on ESPN.
And really, when the breaks come , I'm on to the other 750 channels we have to listen to. The real question is, why are you listening to commercials at all?

I usually go to the NASCAR channel when ESPN goes to commercial or the 80s station, but sometimes I don't and I hear this freaking commercial.
Where's the sympathy?! :)

I listen to ESPN radio on XM all day. There is a commercial for Oprah's channel at every commercial break.
Why am I listening to the commercial breaks. I am at work, and don't really have the time to find something else every 10-15 minutes, its just for background noise.

I guess I treat the radio like I treat the TV. I never watch or listen to commercials. And plus, I only have XM in the car, so it's quite easy to hit another preset when a commercial comes on.

XM Radio advertises XM Radio programming on XM Radio channels.
Why is that so hard to understand?

I often wonder, when blowing thick plumes of smoke from my nostrils and/or mouth.. How many of Oprahs friends are really truly friends, and how many just want to get close enough to kill her and steal her pocketbook?
I then begin thinking about other things, and my time for worrying about Oprah and her friends comes to an end.

I enjoy the fact that I'm not insecure enough to start my own magazine that only has my picture on the cover every month, or my own radio station to further fill the linings of my pockets. I wish I was smart enough to "give" people things all the time It's a helluva tax write-off...
Seriously though, change the station, find something else, and avoid Oprah at all costs...

It should be Friends and Oprah. She's on that what, 30 minutes a week?

Although that's largely because they haven't been as successful as they had hoped in selling spots on XM.

Love the gift she gave the audience on her show the other day. She gives them all $1,000 and a video camera and says they all have to give the money away to someone other than family/friends and film themselves.
Fuck you lady. I wait all day for tickets for your show and you give me work? I don't think so girlfriend.

Here's the whole list of advertisers, straight from XM themselves (with the disclaimer that not all are currently on-air).

They don't have commercials on their music channels. Listen closely to the ads for both XM and Sirius, and you'll notice they say "commercial free music." The talk/entertainment/news channels all have ads.

Not many though.
Things like ESPN radio will because they have to broadcast a normal terrestrial radio schedule of ads.

I listen to the comedy channels a lot, and they have just as many ads as ESPN.
I rarely have the political/talk/news shows on, so I could not say about those.

can't speak for XM but Howard breaks maybe once an hour and I haven't noticed many on the NFL channel either on Sirius.
