Okay, what did everyone get their significant others...

I bought 1/3 carat diamond earrings in a platnum (sp?) setting, flowers, two cards (one serious, one funny).

We'll go out somewhere nice to eat this weekend (barring all this damn snow)!!!

Hopefully I'll get a reply, instead of another threadkill.

i havent gotten my GF anything. we both decided that we would just not spend money on each other since funds are a bit low. so now my question is do any of you have good ideas for things that i could make, i plan on making a card myself but some other idea would be great.

My girlfriend is going to be out of town until Tuesday, so I'm going to be hitting up the stores on Saturday or Monday and hopefully finding some good stuff at a nice big discount.

How the heck did you guys rig that? By that, I mean twisting the evil Hallmark holiday into something for guys? That's a neat trick and how can we do it here?

We agreed to save the money and put it towards our master bathroom. :)

Our 5th Anniversary is in May. We agreed that we wanted to spend the money on a lavish (for us) celebration. We're looking at doing two nights at the Ritz that weekend, so we decided to cut wayyyyyyyyy back on both of our birthdays (12/23 and 4/8), and Valentine's Day this year. So, we're exchanging cards, and I'm cooking a nice dinner at home, including candlelight, wine, etc. (and Sox, that should set me up for some nice nookie :p)

I'm from New York. I don't know how they managed that. I just will accept it in appreciation of cultural relativism. Who am I to argue with a culture fifteen times older than mine?;)

I'm fairly lucky. Valentine's Day doubles as my anniversary...and this is my 5th Anniversary.

I've missed three of our anniversary's because of military obligations already. I got lucky just to be home for this one, as I was told four or five times I wouldn't make it home for it. Shoot, the one I was home for was because my foot was in a cast.

At any rate, one present for two days rules. Add in that we're moving her into her apartment out in here in Missouri today (yes, today) and this should be one interesting anniversary!

I bought my wife roses, Steven Curtis Chapman's "All About Love" (very good CD, btw), and stuffed animals. Most of which was bought and shipped from San Diego before I found out I was coming home!

I guess you can't win them all. At least I beat the package out here.

I'm with SkyDog - cooking her a nice dinner at home. Again, that should get the good nookie.

Had flowers sent to the wife, which should be arriving in an hour or so. A great place I've found to order roses cheap is montereyrose.com. They fed ex them from California, so some assembly is required, but for Valentine's Day, I got 2 dozen long-stem roses for $65 (including shipping). That's about the price of 1 dozen delivered here in town.

Also bought her a pair od microwavable slippers, since she has had a couple of foot surgeries recently and poor circulation.

I got some cologne, a Best Buy gift card, and a couple of Atkins chocolate bars.

And we're going to melting Pot tonight.

She's getting flowers delivered at her office sometime today, and this evening she's coming over and cooking dinner for us. I'm sure if we'd been together longer that would be reversed, but we've been dating for a month now and this will be the first time we'll get to spend time together outside of a restaurant/movie theater setting :)

I bought her chocolates, "Sweet Home Alabama," and a little snuggly outfit for our unborn child. We are going out to eat at one of our favorite resturants and to see "Romoe and Juliet" at the Shakesphere Tavern. Our daughter is spending the night at the inlaws, so we will be having a good time.

Priceless!

Romantic dinner with the wife tonight after our 15-month-old son goes to bed. I'm thinking maybe crab-legs and some wine.

As for a gift, I've moved myself into the Orange Alert level. That means "It is [Holiday'sRealName] and you still don't have the gift in hand." My emergency Action Plan goes into effect at 2:00 p.m. today, when I go to the mall. :p

I'll be at tonight's Penguins/Rangers hockey game, but I did pick up a dozen roses last night, the wife comes home from being out of town for a week and will be surprised to see them when she gets home. The only problem is that I had to put them in the bathroom or else the cats would have eaten them so I have to come up with a clever way to get her to go to that bathroom when she gets home today. Any ideas? keep them clean :)

Ask her to get your toothbrush for you.

Umm...honey, I left uh, um, a uh, the uh, TV remote in the bathroom, could you um, eh uh, get uh, that for me?

How about asking her if she knew how the water got all over the bathroom floor? She might just want to see what you're talking about for herself.

I'm performing in a local Gridiron show tonight (it's an annual political farce put on by journalists to raise money for journalism scholarships), so I won't get to see her until almost 11.

I'm also paying for her van to be fixed... but I might have money for a box of Godiva if I'm lucky.

Well, it will be a Kohler sh*tter! Actually, I like to think the money's going down the drain of our expensive shower.

As for V-day, we're going skiing (which I do on Fridays anyway :) )

Mrs. MK has done an excellent job at putting a major dent into the old Checking Account over these past couple of days.. That's about all I can say..

Looks like it's mustard sandwiches and ramen noodle soups for the next few weeks for yours truly.. :D

Mmmmmmmmm MUSTARD!

I did a card, dvd(You've got Mail), chocolate and we are going to dinner.

I made a wedding planning concession as well. Agreed to book our honeymoon through a travel agent that was more expensive than the one I wanted. Why? Cause she "likes" them.......Women............

That's tremendously smart: you'll never forget and you only have to get 1 present! That's perfect. No, wait: her birthday wouldn't happen to be this week, too, would it? That would be perfect!

What he doesn't tell you is that the guys get their turn, like, a month later on "White Day." He also neglects to mention that, culturally speaking, the guy's gift is expected to be about three or four times in value what the girl's V-Day gift to the guy is worth. ;)

I mean, sure, you could probably rig it so that it happens that way here, but you'd end up payin' for it in March. :D

I got my wife some diamond earrings (not too expensive about 1/3 of a carat (sp?). Also got her some flowers and took her out to a nice dinner. I got a reserved copy of MOO3 in return.

But, I'm really looking forward to March 14. A local DJ here in New Orleans (Rod Ryan) developed this great idea of Steak and BJ day on March 14... I can't wait!:p

The three or four times part is only for the girl you like. And you only have to return chocolate. Plus you neglected to mention the side benefit. The coding of the chocolate you get lets you know if a girl likes you.

It's one time during the year that girls have to be somewhat clear about how they feel about you. And you get a month to figure out what to do about her if you're iffy regarding a relationship with her.

If you take her ten dollar chocolate and buy her a thirty-dollar one a month later, you still come out ahead of the game as compared to guys back home.

Another nuance is that you can avoid overpaying for the White day gift if you learn a little of the nuances of Japanese gift-giving. Or, if you're a foreigner, you can feign ignorance and just get whatever you want.

Heh. I was reading in the LA times the other day where some of the Japanese confectionary shopowners are wistful for the days when "giri choco" was more prominent. Evidently the Japanese ladies haven't been as exorbitant in their chocolate giving as they used to be.

Interesting subject, to be sure.

I had the maids come and clean the house top to bottom as a suprise (which cost a healthy $340!)

needless to say my wife was VERY happy
