Well, Pitt is off and running in their effort to start another BCS shakeup week ... 81-yd TD drive to open things up.

This is gonna be a fun game. WVU marched down the field to tie it at 7, and Pitt just ran the kickoff back to WVU's 34.

I would give almost anything to be in Toledo for the Michigan/Ohio State game.

Alas, I'm cursed and I have to be in Alabama where people actually think the Alabama/Auburn game is important.

Hawaii has a big game as well. not a rivalry game tho.

8-2 Warriors vs the 6-3 San Jose St. Spartans.

Alabama is the only place the game matters this year. That being said I'd love to see it live.

Not sure whether this thread is going to be the one for all results/comments this week, but ... BC leads Maryland 14-0, courtesy of two fumble returns for TD's in the first five minutes of the game.

Three minutes in, and BC is already up on Maryland 14-0. The same guy has returned two fumbles for TDs.

Good thing the Badger - Buffalo game is not on TV other than ESPNU. In the first quarter, there was a lost fumble, a muffed pitch, an INT, a FG that hit the crossbar, a blocked FG, and the teams combined to go 0-5 on third down.

Penn State should stop turning the ball over.

The first successful 3rd (or 4th) down conversion of the game came when the QB fumbled the snap, picked it up, and ran ahead for the 1st. I feel sorry for the fans in Madison.

The Badgers sound like a high school team. They forced Buffalo to punt, then the damn returner doesn't tell his guys to get out the way on a short punt, it bounces off a Badgers foot, and is recovered by Buffalo. First play bomb down the middle to the 3.

Ainge 9-for-11 so far.

I think the entire stadium (teams included) are sleeping. Buffalo shanks a 25-yd FG, and the Badgers have to take a time out because their offense wasn't ready to play. OK, I'm done ranting. The Badgers have no right to complain about rankings if they play like this.

GT vs Duke starts in true to form fashion:

1-10-GATECH20 (14:54) Reggie Ball was intercepted. John Talley returned the interception for 8 yards.

Thankfully, this is Duke. They missed a subsequent FG try.

edit to add: Next possession, all on the ground as Choice gets five carries for 80 yards & a TD. 7-0 GT with 9 mins left in Q1.

JonInMiddleGA
11-18-2006, 12:55 PM
Vols lead Vandy 19-7 at the half.

Elsewhere, Florida is doing very bad things to Western Carolina early in Q3, it's 41-0 Gators. Leak is 9/12 for 100 yds & a TD, Tebow is 5/5 for 78 yds passing + 5 rushes for 33 yds & 2 TD's.

JonInMiddleGA
11-18-2006, 01:49 PM
Vols 29-7 over Vandy late in the 3rd qtr after Coker rips off an 88 yd run for a TD.

GT is 21-0 over Duke, TD passes from Ball to Johnson (Calvin) and Johnson (James).

And that Florida whipping continues, now 62-0 over W.Carolina. Tebow with career high 10/12 for 200 yds & 2 TD's (plus 2 more rushing TD's).

edit to add: Make it 28-0 GT, another Ball to C.Johnson TD following a Duke fumble inside their own 30.

How many years does a coach need to coach before he can correctly identify, in advance, that he is going to be willing to go for it on 4th down?

Michigan went for it on 4th and 10 from the 35 yard line. That's fine with me, but what baffles me is the sequence of plays that makes no attempt to pick up a few yards thereby expanding your 4th down options, or just maybe putting you into field goal position so you dont have to go for it on 4th down.

I mean, if it was 4th and 2 from the 27, they probably try a 44 yard field goal.

I genuinely think it only occurs to most coaches on 4th down that they are all of the sudden willing to go for it on 4th, making their 2nd and 3rd down play-calling lousy in retrospect.

If I can see the situation coming 2 plays in advance while watching live, why can't someone with some influence on the coaching staff see it? This scenario plays out a number of times every single weekend on the college and pro level. My #1 pet peeve.

Here's the ranking for order of shot at OSU:

1. USC
2. Florida
3. Arkansas
4. Michigan
5. ND
6. Rutgers

If a team ahead of you loses, move one step forward. I just have such a hard time saying one of those other teams with one loss, who wins their conference, doesn't deserve a shot. ND MUST BE BEHIND MICHIGAN in the pecking order.

Suppose USC beats Cal and loses to Notre Dame? Would you want to "give" a Notre Dame team that got their asses handed to them by Michigan (in South Bend) a shot at the title? I thought the goal was to select the two best teams to play in the national championship game. If the consortium of human and computer pollsters determine that Ohio State and Michigan are the two best teams, I don't have a problem with them playing again in Glendale.

That Codley, or whateever his name is, douchebag almost cost me a good deal of money. Either way, Michigan is OK in my book.

I don't follow college football all too closely, just watch the big games. And I also don't get it, if Michigan and Ohio State are the 2 best teams in the country at seasons end, why not a rematch?

Wyoming is bowl eligible after knocking off UNLV. Not bad for a season where they were supposed to be a lot worse, losing almost all of their good players from last season.

Considering they were a missed extra point away from 2 OT against UVa., and should've took Boise State close here at home, I wonder how next year will go.

Without a playoff, I don't feel a team who doesn't win their conference should be playing for the National Championship. Felt the same about Oklahoma a few years ago.

But does a playoff really solve anything, say if Michigan beats Ohio State? Would it truly determine who's "better"? It's not like the NFL or the NBA, where you got a small, pretty equal pool of teams that play each other.

Also, what about Notre Dame, since they aren't part of a conference? What about those conferences who have the advantage of a Conference title game?

It's a sticky situation with no system that would truly determine a champion.

Another Michigan fan adding a congrats to Ohio State. That's easily the best team in the nation. They were the better team today and deserved what they got.

I'm still not sure where I land on the rematch issue. I would say if these two teams played 10 times, Ohio State would win 7 times. The problem is, these are also clearly the two best teams in the nation.

ND got DA-Rilled at home, by Michigan, and so we're going to make them #2 ahead of Michigan? USC has struggled all year. Squeaked by UW, Wash St and Arizona St. If you want to claim to be #2 in the nation, you don't barely win those games and you sure as shit don't lose to Oregon State. Arkansas and Florida, even Rutgers have a better arguement than USC and ND.

Being a Michigan fan, I'd love to see rematch, especially because I consider Michigan the second best team in the country. But if USC were to win out, I'd be perfectly fine with them getting their shot or Florida too. But I feel Michigan should get their shot before Notre Dame or Arkansas. I feel it should be down to USC, Florida, and Michigan.

If you're okay with Florida playing, and Arkansas beats LSU and then Florida in the SEC title game, how could you not be alright with Arkansas playing for the title? Their only loss, in a tough conference, would be to a team you also feel worth of the shot in USC.

With the rematch issue, I think if Michigan won there would have been a better case for a rematch. Since Ohio State was #1 and will remain #1, another top contender should get a shot. Michigan has had their chance. Is Michigan the second best team in the nation? Probably. So if Ohio State wins the championship game and Michigan wins the Rose Bowl, guess what the final standings look like?

1 Dead, 1 Hurt in Kan. Fan Bus Accident
Nov 18, 9:02 PM (ET)

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) - One person was killed and another critically injured in an accident involving a bus carrying Kansas State University fans to Saturday's football game at the University of Kansas, police said.

The one-vehicle accident occurred around 11:30 a.m. less than two miles from Memorial Stadium. Few details were available by late afternoon, and police would not identify the dead and injured except to say both were male.

Lawrence police Sgt. Paul Fellers confirmed that both were passengers on the "Cat Tracker," a retrofitted school bus that takes Wildcat fans to games but is not affiliated with the university.

The injured fan was taken to University of Kansas Medical Center, where he was in critical condition.

Hospital spokesman Dennis McCulloch said the fan was being treated for a head injury and that his identity would not be released Saturday.

"The family understands the public's interest in his condition but requests prayers and privacy," McCulloch said.

Putting things in perspective though, a 9-1 Rutgers that should beat Syracuse to go 10-1 and still has a shot at respectability with a win over West Virginia, isn't exactly shades of 0-11 or something.

No, they won't win a national title or get a shot at it. But then, no one thought that was going to happen anyway. I think losing now is good. Gets all the national media attention off of them, Schiano worried me when he was doing all of those interviews anyway this past week and gets them focused on what they've been doing all year prior to this -- chopping wood.

Rather nice to have a live game on at 11pm local to watch. ASU has been terrible in the red zone and are down 14-12 to UCLA.

BYU has quietly brought themselves back this season with a Top 25 ranking, destruction of every crappy ass team in the Mountain West....

Although, I wish they would have pulled their heads out against Arizona (which is looking like they are pretty tough) and Boston College, if so..we would be hearing BCS talk at home...Instead we get to go to the Vegas Bowl and play a Pac 10 team that is looking like Oregon...

Ah, there is the Rutgers I know and love. It was getting scary for a moment there with all those wins! Hopefully Rutgers hasn't gone to full suck-ness yet. Gotta beat Syracuse.

Professor Dowling is back and he has brought RU 1000 with him. Maybe you can join them in their crusade.

I would not totally count on no BCS just yet. The losses by Maryland and Wake Forest kept BYU alive. If BYU finishes in the top 16 of the BCS rankings, is the highest ranked non-BCS conference winner (in other words, Boise St needs to lose bad enough to drop below BYU), and they are ranked higher than the champion of a conference with an automatic bid (possible with the ACC), then BYU would get an automatic berth. In the ACC, the four teams that still have a chance to win the conference were Wake Forest (#16), Georgia Tech (#18), Maryland (#19), and Boston College (#20). Although Wake and Maryland both lost today (and will drop in the BCS), they can still win the conference (Wake wins if they beat Maryland, but Maryland needs BC to lose to Miami). Georgia Tech plays Georgia, so if they lose that game but then win the ACC, they could be behind BYU. In other words, there is a decent chance that BYU ends up ahead of the ACC winner. The bigger questions are if BYU can make it to the top 16 and if a one-loss Boise St would drop behind a two-loss BYU. It's a longshot, but you can still hope!

Well Damn, thanks for the info....I just kind of wrote us off there, but I feel if we didn't lose to Arizona and still have our loss to BC, we are still ranked in the Top 15 right now because we played BC to double OT and shot ourselves in the foot there. But I am just happy that we are playing as great as we are.

Yup, a loss is a loss and an excuse is an excuse.

But we didn't have our depth and played without our Starting QB Brandon Doman and Doak Walker Award Winner Luke Staley, and I think our 2nd RB was injured as well...

We went into that game tore up, and was shredded for it, thus began the down fall of Gary Crowton at BYU, it's going to be sweet sweet irony for him if he comes into the LV Bowl with Oregon as their OC and wipes the walls with us....

Well as it stands they will get a bid, it's just dependent on the Bowl....right now the Mountain West has tie in's to:

BYU has accepted the LV Bowl, TCU is more than likely going to the Fort Worth Bowl, and it looks like Utah will go to the Poinsetta Bowl, guess that leaves the Pokes heading to New Mexico....
