View Full Version : Ping: PS3 owners (anybody out there?)

We may have a temporary opening for PS3 coverage, depending on whether/if any of our existing staffers actually snag a PS3 during the launch window here.

If one or more do, obviously they will handle our PS3 coverage needs. Given the shortage of units, however, I'm going to throw it out there - if nobody on staff lands a PS3 unit, and some PS3 owner out there in FOFC-land is receptive to the idea of free games...we might be able to do some business, as it were.

Ugh. I got mine today and I haven't opened it up. I'm seriously considering whether or not to list it on ebay next week on Black Friday.

Keep us in mind if you end up not ebaying it.

We might could use you.

I'm in the same boat as RA, although may be purchasing another tomorrow which will make the decision a little easier.

Trying not to buckle to the pressure from the wife, but the problem is that there isn't a game that I want to play for the PS3. With the money I could get from selling them, I can pick up Gears of War, Smackdown vs. Raw, Tony Hawk 8, etc. as well as get my kids some great presents this year.

Dola, the other thing is that I haven't played FOF 2007 yet, haven't finished Marvel Ultimate Alliance (with my son), just picked up another PSP, and there's only so much time in the day. Let me talk it over with the wife.

That's hilarious.

How much are they going for on ebay and such? The PS3's that is, not sucky jerseys, or even non-sucky jerseys.

Heh. That's actually a Napoleon Kaufman jersey not a Stanford Routt jersey...one was a first round pick that left the NFL for God; the other is on a decent defense and an offense that should be serving breakfast. ;)

My wife picked up one for my brother for Christmas. I haven't told him that yet and I also got a custom bobblehead of him made on headbobble.com. I'm debating whether he'd be satisfied with a bobblehead only or if he would really want a PS3.

You act like it was so easy. :D Good for you, if I had gotten lucky enough, that puppy would have been on ebay for sure. There isn't much out in the way of games and my 360 is just fine for me. You could make some serious cash with those puppies. Don't tell your brother! :p

I'd probably ebay his, and then send him a 700 dollar gift card so he can buy one in the spring, something to that effect. If you don't want to actually play the games that are out right now, I'd definitely ebay.

And yeah, get a jersey for a team that doesn't suck too.

I'm really wishing I had snagged one for the eBay factor. If I had one in my hot little hands right now there's NO way I keep it, I try to make a profit off of it.

I am *so* glad I have my Xbox 360. This console is so much better than I was expecting.

I'm sure the ps3 will get there (MLB The Show anyone?), but right now the 360 is the console to get.

How can you make a damn statement like that? You haven't even played PS3 yet.

Yes xbox 360 is good, but please stop making statements like that if you never played PS3.

There is no shortage of dumb people in this country willing to pay 300%, 400%, 500% of retail for a game system. I used to think ticket scalpers were the lowest form of life, but the people who pay the money are lower.

Mizzou -- do you have, or have you played Xbox 360? I'm curious as to whether or not you can see any discernible difference between the two systems graphics/performance wise. I know it's early...but I'm still curious :)

The PS3 ebay market is really oversaturated, early on preorders were going for outrageous ($2000+), now most are barely going above 1200, some even less. Quite a few are going at that rate with several games and acessories included.

The only one I saw above $1300 so far today - the guy literally put a naked woman in his auction cheesecake style, holding a ps3, and he got $2200 with over 2000 views.

Something like 23,000 listings on eBay.

Out of what some analysts are projecting as a quarter million units shipped at launch.

That's one in every ten. Of course, only one in every ten of THOSE seems to be getting any bids, as folks are listing them at $10k+.

I'd love to be the guy to do that, but I haven't played similar games on both systems. Resistance is an unbelievable game. I'm actually a sports fan, but I've had trouble putting down Resistance thus far. It's just a lot of fun to play. I think the fact that it has Resident
Evil-type moments that cause you to jump is one of the reasons it seems like something more than the normal shooter. I've always been a Resident Evil fan, so that may be why I like it so much.

I have played the 360 earlier in the year at a friends house and had fun playing it. One thing I can say is that the graphics are certainly no worse than the 360. If you had to ask me to commit, I think the graphics are a bit cleaner than the 360 on the games that I have played thus far, but I know that there are some launch games that really underutilized the hardware. I only picked up the highly rated games and I certainly am quite happy with what I'm seeing. As I said, I don't have any experience with similar games to make an exact comparison.

I'd love nothing more than to see that market fall through. There's demand for the machines, but I think people are highly overestimating what they can get for the system.

I really can't recall, because I didn't pay much attention. During the Xbox 360 launch was it quite this bad? Rioting, stick-ups, consoles on eBay for a couple grand?

Like I said I can't really recall, but I swore it wasn't half this bad for the 360. I certainly don't remember anybody being shot over one.

I don't believe it was as bad, but with every console launch people began seeing the market and not wanting to be left out, now I think some people will be regretting getting involved. I remember paying $700 for a PS2 off ebay at launch, and at the time that was fairly cheap if I remember correctly.

Everyone will make their money back, but it won't be as profitable as early preorders indicated so it won't be worth all the hassle.

I'm waiting until after Black Friday to list ours. We're selling both to get what we can. I'll re-use the money on other Christmas gifts. FWIW, I'm a big console football fan and from what I can tell Madden isn't really different on the PS3 than the 360. I bought WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 to curb my desire to open the PS3 and watch Talledega Nights. :)

Forgot to add that when I went to Best Buy to buy Smackdown vs. Raw there were three dudes waiting outside for the Wii tomorrow. I don't really think they need to do that since Nintendo will probably fulfill its promises of shipping every week.

My sister is heading out to a local Target at midnight for the Wii launch, just to scope how things are. For the most part, if I'm not getting it on launch day, I figure I'll definitely get my hands on one before this year is over.

There were three girls out camping in front of Toys 'R Us when I was out running errands earlier. The PS3 gaggle at Best Buy on Wednesday was mostly males in their 20's and teens with their parents.

Seems like Wii is going to cut across demographic lines.
