View Full Version : FOF2K7: QB Rushing totals too low?

Now, perhaps they were too high in past versions, I don't know. And I'm only through 2 seasons, so not enough to make a call, but so far, I haven't seen QBs really having an impact on their rushing games.
Mike Vick, with 93 scramble frequency, in 2 season without missing a game, has a total of 141 carries for 530 yards and 3 TDs. Mainly, that 3.76 YPC looks alarming, that's not what I'm accustomed to seeing for a great running QB.
My QB Anthony Wright has a 68 scramble frequency, and this season had 50 carries for 146 yards.
The best rushing numbers from a QB I've seen through 2 seasons are McNabb, scramble frequency 63, with 105 carries for 536 yards and 2 TDs through 2 seasons.
So, my point is... it seems like QB rushing totals are down.

I think this is tied in with the issue of running back rushes being too high, basically high endurance RBs are getting a much higher percentage of carries than before, robbing QBs, backup RBs, etc.

Yeah, but Y/C is way down too if this post is correct--different matter entirely. In 2k4, good scrambling QBs often gained 5-6 yards/carry.

Yeah, I've only done 2 seasons, so hardly a lot of data, but McNabb was the only QB I remember seeing over 4 YPC.

One question I had was are there very many running plays for qbs? I guess alot of guys like vick or Vyoung are from scrambling so maybe that is aquestion how much scrambling for runs is there?

One thing I've always wondered: Is there a hidden rating for how effective a QB scrambles? It seems like a different issue than how often a QB scrambles which seems to me all that the visible scramble frequency addresses. I've seen a few QB's with low scramble frequency get a high yards per carry and vice versa.

This is something that I am hoping the game deals with well since more and more running QBs are coming into the NFL. I felt that FOF 2004 running QBs were more like a Tony Romo type scrambler passing QB that can run well. I never felt there was aMike Vick or Vince Young type players e.g Running QBs/athletes who could pass. That is really what I amwondering. And Eagle I also wonder about about your questionit seems to be partially at the heart of this a matter.

It's possible to convert QBs to RBs and they do have the same rushing related attributes as running backs do (In fact I think all players have all the available attributes, just that most of them are set to 0).

Young's first season looks like it will fit well in the high end of an FOF running QB: somewhere in the 70-80 carries for 400-500 yards range. I've never seen Vick-type rushing numbers from a QB in FOF. This will be Vick's fourth season with 100+ carries and 40+ first downs rushing, and he's got a good shot at 1,000 rushing yards. From what I've seen in text sims in general, major outliers like this present a problem for games to emulate. No QB has ever put up rushing numbers over an extended period of time like him. (His lifetime average is now 7.4 yards per carry.) Yeah, more running QB's are coming into the league, but until one or two other QB's are consistently getting over 100 carries per season, I'm not sure I want to see that sort of thing in FOF, unless it's possible for it to be EXTREMELY rare.

SD,
Thanks for that analysis. You make agreat point and as long as a guy like Young can be represneted I am fine with guys like Vick who are now almost like a option QB or even a third RB. He is a an outlier so I agree, I would rather not see it in a sim game either until it is more common.

That sounds good. At first, I thought you said for one season, and I was about to say WTF?

Yep. I think most good QB scramblers are really high in breakaway speed and not great otherwise.
