Is there a Massively Multiplayer game that is a space game and first person?

The couple I've found are all point and click. Earth: Above and Beyond - point and click. Freelancer - point and click. EVE:The Second Genesis - point and click...

How about use Privateer and Wing Commander fans? I want a game that's massively multiplayer and uses a joystick to control the ship. I know games use point and click to increase customer base...but you'd think (or maybe just hope) there'd be ONE 1st person, joystick space game out there....

If anyone ever finds one of those let me know too, Privateer is a great concept for a massive multiplayer game.

It's not a MMO per se (sorry) but if you can get your hands on a slightly older game call "Hardwar", you might be able to accomplish something similar. It's a pretty darn decent flying game with open-type gameplay. If I recall correctly, it allows you to set up a server so that you can have a persistent world. It seems to be one of those good-games-that-never-got-properly-hyped (see: Europa 1400: The Guild).

There also seems to be a fairly solid online community for the game that should not be too difficult to find.

I found my copy awhile back in the bargain bin of EB but before going out of your way to buy it, you might try looking around at places where these underdogs type of games may be found to see if you'll like it and play it first.
