View Full Version : Problem Running With Latest Patch

I've been having a problem with patch C on my laptop. Every time I try to open the game the computer accesses the program, but the front page never comes up. When I go to task manager FOF appears in processes, but doesn't show up as an application. I can kill the process without any ill effects, but I can't get the game to run.
I've tried rebooting, removing and reinstalling the patch, turning off firewall and virus software, but it still does the same thing. The only difference in my laptop setup is that my wireless router went down. My first thought was that it might have to do with a license verification, but Customer Support at Solecismic says that's unlikely.
I'm working with customer support, but I thought I'd throw out the problem to the folks here as well. If you have any ideas let me know as I really want to have some portability with the game during the holidays. Thanks.

Did you completely uninstall the game from your add/remove programs - reboot your pc - then install version "c" of the game?

Odd.
Everything else open ok on your laptop?

This has happened to me too, with this game and occasionally with OOTP. I don't know what the hell causes it, but to fix it, try a system restore to a point where the game worked (It's in your start menu under Accessories/System Tools). That works for me every time.

I had that problem last night. I uninstalled, then reinstalled, and that worked.
Not sure why it happened either...

This is happening to me right now(6.0d)--extremely annoying. I tried rebooting, reinstalling, closing all my antivirus/firewall, doing everything in the FAQs and I just can't get it to work. God damn it.

I've basically given up. I had a partitioned drive and I got it to work for a while on the other partition, but after a few times it did the same thing. Even uninstalling doesn't help. Its extremely annoying and I don't get nearly the enjoyment out of the game as I would if it were on my laptop as well as my desktop.
I'm going to try the last part of the suggested fixes when I get home and get an XP install disk from my father in law. In a way it's good to know other people are having the same problem. Everything seems to point to a problem with FOF or the license as everything else on my laptop runs fine and spy scans and virus scans come up negative.

I got it fixed somehow. I really don't know what changed. I had my firewall completely closed at the time.

gah, it is firewall related after all. i disabled the firewall this morning and it did nothing. but exiting the firewall process completely has resolved it. i am using Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall (if that helps anyone else).
