View Full Version : Haven't played FOF4 recently--what's your take?

I've been checking this site out quite a bit, but usually find no mention of the actual game here...

So, I was wondering what everyone was doing with FOF 4 right now--

Have you shelved it because of a problem?

Is it a great game that I should boot back up and get absorbed in? (I need a sports fix--Europa Universalis is REAL tough with the new patch)

Any problems with tedious fixing of game plans or lineups?

Is the computer AI pretty good--or do we need a list of houserules again to play?

Any other issues/wonderful comments you would like to share would be greatly appreciated. My Bolton Wanderers dynasty just can't hold me like it used to now that I know all about the next version--so FOF is my only hope!

I still play it everyday... although C&C Generals is getting a big portion of my time.

I'm a novice at FOF so I haven't used any houserules yet. I've had a hard time in 2007 with the Rams, Warner, Bruce, and Holt are all gone and I'm having to get cheap players to fill the roster.

I have a feeling baseball will be taking my time soon as I'm a seasonal sports gamer.

Play it.... Hopefully 4.0c will come out before baseball is in full swing!

I concur with Mizzourah. I played it when it first came out. Shelved it for a while until the first patch came out, then played a little more. I picked it up again when the second patch came out. At first I was a little leary because the injury rate was increased, but in retrospect it makes the game more realistic and challenging. I haven't had to use house rules yet, but I say that as I've picked up the Texans and haven't missed the playoffs yet. It looks like I'm headed to the superbowl this year. I'm looking forward to the next patch as well. There are still some minor issues that could use a little fixing, but all in all, it's a playable and enjoyable game IMO.

I am also enjoying it (with the current patch) a lot, without any house rules.

After the last patch the game is quite playable and enjoyable with only minor issues th perplex you. I load my game up almost daily along with TCY which in my opinion has more flaws than FOF4. My biggest problem with FOF4 are.

1. Players not retiring geesh how many players on our games are gonna play 18 plus years, I wish i could beg some of my guys to retire. Although I prefer this over all my guys retiring too soon as it was at first.
2. I wish you hired coordinators and such and just not a coach.
3. The gameplan menus seem a little too much to do at times I usually let my coaches make these decisions.
4.Computer teams need to be more aggressive and have different personalties to how each go about thier business.
5.I know its hard but I wish I could see get stats for all my players that ever played without saving a year at a time.
6.Wish there was more of an rpg element with players or agents contacting teams when they are free agents maybe like a faux newspaper report at times or your scouts or coaches making opinions known without yo hitting recommend.
7. prior to draft being able to deeply scout certain players within a limit so they were not just numbers or at least giving combine numbers.

All in all a great game and I am deeply enjoying it. Have been able to enjoy without house rules at hardest level although I don't try to exploit known flaws in AI that I would not do in real life.

Thanks guys--I think I'm going to boot the game up today and mess with it a bit.

Any word on when the next patch is coming out? What issues do you feel are the main ones that it must address?

I still play it all of the time. The toughest part is starting it back up after you have shelved. That was the hardest part for me atleast.

I think there will be a new patch this summer. Am I correct?

dread,

Email those ideas to Jim, he may not implement those into a 'C' patch, but he will respond to your ideas.

I emailed Jim regarding most of the ideas listed above. He said most would be implemented in the patch thats going to be released this summer

For the most part, FOF2=FOF4. A few minor changes, but nothing major. I felt kind of cheated to be honest. I still have played the hell out of it though.
