With The Great American Race today who do you guys think will
hoist the trophy by the end of the day .....I feel it will be Earnhardt Jr. dominating the day .With a good aero package and engine the DEI Cars will dominate .

Barring mechanical failure, this one is Jr's.

I'll be happy if Robby Gordon or Chrisitian Fittipaldi can pull it off.

I truly detest Nascar as a sport, I hate any sport where you are motorized or on top of an animal, regardless Im pulling for rusty Wallace so they can give out some of that truly awful miller lite. My only reason for watching Daytona is maybe Tony Stewart will clock somebody.

Not really a big NASCAR fan but I am getting a free preview of the in car thing on inDemand. It is actually pretty cool to go inside the car and see what the driver sees. I predict a win from junior in this one.

I refuse to vote on this asinine poll, for one reason, you should have included all the drivers, or at least an other category.

odds are that they will be very closely related to another driver.
Inbreeding in Nascar is rampant lol.

I am happy I didn't pick Junior in my weekly pool. He seems to have the curse at the 500 just like his dad did. He wins everything there but the 500.

Heh, the rain did win.

One thing I hate about NASCAR is that they'll shorten the event and just declare a "winner". Here, Michael Waltrip won what is supposedly the premier event of NASCAR by completing just over half the laps. It's like the Super Bowl being over at the half.

Well, maybe that's not a good example, because quite often the Super Bowl is "over" by halftime. :)

Formula 1 runs in the rain, why can't NASCAR?

Here's a link to one of several Q&A bits I've found on that subject
http://www.sportingnews.com/voices/lee_spencer/mailbag/20021128.html

Basically, the answers to the question all say the same thing -- it's a matter of the weight of the cars plus the amount of banking on many of the tracks.

Goodyear has been working for years to come up with a tire that could handle rainy conditions but with little success.

Actually, there is a "rain tire" that's been approved for road courses (such as Watkins Glen) but it's never been needed.

Hmm, the explanation I heard, is that rain tires would wear too fast, they would have to be changed every 8 laps.

I think an even bigger question is why they use such a lame method to dry the track. It seems obvious that they could design a drying system that would take half or a quarter of the time too complete.

I think that would make for exciting racing! More strategy, more lead changes.

I know this is gonna be an obscure reference these days, but if anybody watched CART in Australia this year, that's why you don't race in the rain. There was a massive pileup, involving about half the field and the rest of the race was ran under yellow. A wanker that couldn't race his way out of a bag ended up winning the race and yes he celebrated like he won the Monaco GP. Simply amazing to watch. To even think about NASCAR racing in the rain, scary.
