I am a big sports fan, particularly the Jets, Yankees, Rangers, and (if they trade all the jerks on their team) Knicks. So occasionally I cruise over to various team boards and I tell you if the average IQ is above 90 is not discernable. It's almost impossible to have an intelligent conversation. People who root for other teams come over with things like "the Jets sucks", "Yankees suck", etc. What do you think this says about our society? Are we so uneducated and immature that it's often difficult to have an intelligent online conversation? Are people that visit discussion boards just more stupid than the average person? What's your take?

I am a huge Missouri Tiger fan and subscribe to a pretty decent board. (www.tigerboard.com) But you are right, for every decent conversation about yesterday's game there was...

1. 200 threads about how Kansas is great, no Kansas sucks, no KU is great, KU sucks, etc...
2. 10 threads about how bad a coach Quin Snyder is (the same people mind you who were ready to have gay sex with the guy during the NCAA tournament last year)
3. 10 threads about how bad OSU is because they lost to Baylor (even though we just lost to Texas A&M)

I just think it is eaiser to get into a KU sucks war than intelligent conversation. Plus, lets face it a guy could type intelligent critique of Mizzou all day and go unnoticed, but the minute he puts that Quin sucks, 100 people reply. (I like to call it the Hornsmaniac principle, bad replies are better than no replies) Just my 2 cents.

1) Yes. But I find it to be pretty close to that difficult IRL, certainly the 'net isn't the only outpost of stupidity.

2) No, they're just braver due to anonymity.
