Hey guys...I'm back and less argumentative/a-holeish...
Just wanted to say that what I did w/ Tournament Dreams was completely write the game off untill the newest 1.21 patch came out.
The bugs were just ridiculous, and it wasn't playable until now...so I apologize to all of those who I battled with over this...I was wrong.
At any rate...with the NCAA rosters and face packs...along with realistic gameplay, I'm pretty into the game.
Any thoughts?

Where'd you get the NCAA rosters w/ face packs (or without them for that matter). I know people scoff at this because the players are gone in 4 years, but it gives me a starting point to get more into my team. Then I'm more into recruiting to see who will play with my underclassmen, and I care more about them.

I used these rosters:
http://www.400softwarestudios.com/board/showthread.php?threadid=22187
And the PhotoPack/rosters (includes ACC, SEC, Big 12, Pac 10) from here:
http://www.simuleagues.com/tdcb/
I put on the top rosters first, as it covers the whole NCAA (verified because I have a friend who plays in the Ivy League who is on there), and then I wrote over some of the leagues with the link (Photo pack 1.0).
Like you, it gave me a better basis and starting point. As it was, it wsa hard for me to get into the game knowing none of the players, and what needs I had for the next season...

Can you give those of us without TDCB a bit of more in dept opinion of what you think of it, in terms of like/dislike, so far (since 1.21)?

Like:
-Stats seems to turn out more realistic now. For a while, my PG would rarely shoot 3's.
-New PbP gives a better sense of the game (fastbreaks esp.).
-Sliders seem to have a real effect on the type of game youplay (perimeter or post...or both).
-Fouls finally get called at a real level. Before faouls didn't seem to affect the game at all
-Recruiting seems to be working now
-Player cards pop-up upon double-click
-All-time school records :)
Dislikes:
-I wish that you could adjust how often certain players on your team shoot. As it is, if you have a really good 3 shooting PG, and a really good 3 shooting SG, they take equal shots...
-There should be an area on the player card indicating injury or something (It may be there, but I didnt see it)...one of my PG's got hurt (I think?) and couldnt play in the second hald. He was available, but when I would put him in, he would go to TIRED then ECHAUSTED pretty fast. If I click on his player card, it should say why (cramps? sprain?)
Those are my general impressions after half of a season...Maybe I'll post a dynasty. Who knows.

Nifty. Thanks. :)
Hope you keep us informed on how recruiting turned out after a few seasons of tinkering with the team. :)

Will do. It's going well so far. I only have two scholies, and I originally earmarked them for a SF and a PG...I usually pick two main targets, and 4 or 5 fallbacks (I call a lot of guys the first two weeks, and if they're not interested, I don't waste my time).
Well the PG who I really wanted was named Tomas Heard. 5'10, and was Excellent in everything except for Rebounding and Athleticism. He was all but committed when he declared for the draft (that's probably something else Arlie should look at...not many PG's go pro out of HS. That's more reserved for SF, PF, and C's)...bummer. But I have a kid in Bama that's looking at me, and a hometown kid who has offers from UConn and Stanford. A nice fallback option.
The SF I had settled on going after...he was the #17 SF in the country. The big schools going after him were Florida (he was from FL), Kansas, and UCLA (me). Well after a few weeks, all of the big schools started dropping him, and schools like Campbell were his new leader. Ugh. I did some looking around, and found a nice little combo guard (mainly a SG, though) from CA who has been offered by Stanford and USC. I've since offered him and it's looking good.
Maybe I'll crank up a dynasty later tonight and post everything.

The game is in really good shape right now, I recommend it IF you are a college basketball fan.
My only gripes about the game are:
-The post game just isn't quite right yet, I'm playing as G'town, and with post play almost all the way over on the slider, Mike Sweetney is struggling to average 10 a game.
-I can understand not being able to choose about how many shots a game a player should take, but you should be able to call a play for a particular player. I think this would solve the low post scoring situation.

I was running a high post, I'm switching right now to a 1 guard front to see what happens.

Hm. I would've recommended High-Post, too. I haven't looked much at the One Guard...is that like the 1-4?
Also, what is your 3 pointer setting? Set Play-Motion Offense setting? Make sure you run a lot of set plays (if you arent already).

The_herd: Have you noticed some low post play results on more than one occasion?
My real question being, could this be a case of Mike Sweetney getting screwed in the ratings, so he isn't performing as well as he should? Or is the post game still a little low overall?

Sweetney's ratings are incredible, should be scoring about 18-20 a night, instead, at the moment, he's averaging 9.9 points, and 7.5 rebounds a game, Wesley Wilson, my center is averaging a whopping 5 points and 6.5 boads a game. Both are averaging over 30 mpg, so its not a fatigue problem. One guard is averaging 10 a game, however my shooting gaurd is averaging 19 a game, I just can't get it through his head that this is Georgetown and things like that don't happen (Iverson is the exception, not the rule).
All the sliders are to where we should be destroying teams down low, just not happening.
But I do want to say, this game is a lot of fun right now, regardless. I quit playing after 1.18 and just picked it back up and I'm quite pleased with where it is right now.

I am so sick of people bitching and moaning about how awful TD is. If you don't like it, just ask for a refund!!! It's just a game!!! Don't you have a LIFE!?!?!? Oh...wait...wrong thread ;)

In case some of you didn't know the game is not designed to exactly reproduce the statistical numbers that a player had for a particular season. It is a college basketball "management" simulation, deisgned to be "like" college basketball. From what I have heard it does that.

So players don't play in the low post in college? They shouldn't be able to get their inside monster 20 and 10 a night? That's the college basketball I think it should be "like" if thats what I want.

actually the low post game these days does seem like a thing of that past. any well-coached big man worth a crap jumps to the nba so fast these days that most all of what's left in college is guards
the skill level at duke is attrocious (skill, not talent), and OU and florida are having all kinds of problems stopping the inside game right now, but all three teams are in it just from sheer talent and the ability to run and shoot
Easy Mac
02-16-2003, 08:58 PM
which means that the other teams can play down low (i.e. why G-town hung in with Duke). Just because some teams don't do it doesn't mean it can't work.

I just got done with my first season using one of the data disks and have been very pleased with it. In the final four it is Maryland, Arizona, Kentucky, and Florida. That is pretty realistic. Arizona was a #1 seed. Florida was a #3. Maryland was a #2. Lastly, Kentucky was a #1.
This is all very pleasing. As for the leading scorers in the nation, all of the highest ppg scorers are from small schools. Most notably is Kyle Korver at #2 averaging 23.2 ppg. This is all very nice to see, besides the fact that my Boilers (struck with injuries and suspensions all year) finished a dismal 10-19. Willie Deane led us with 16 a game though. :)

Dola.....
I just simmed the final four. Arizona beat Florida 72-65. Luke Walton had 21 points 6 boards and 2 steals, and took MVP honors. Salim Stoudimire added 18 points. Matt Bonner scored 20 points for Florida in his last collegate game.

Ok, enough of this talk. I told myself I was passing this one up. Don't make me steal the Visa card out of my wife's purse!
That's great hearing the game is coming around. I'm sure Arlie likes to read threads like this as well.

Willie Deane got drafted by the 76ers with the 22nd pick. For those who have seen him play, could you imagine Iverson and him playing together. They are pretty much mirror images of each other. Iverson got a lot more press (which he deserves/d) than Deane.
I have to say the data disks have done it for me. They have gotten me hooked to this game. I never used to think I needed real players, but I think this made me realize I do. :) I am starting to really enjoy this game.

I do have one complaint. :) I am not sure if this is a bug or not, so I will throw it at ya. In the Almanac (Where most of the records are kept. It adds another dimension to this game.) It says that for a the most assists in a game last season that Chuck Eddison had 28 (assists). Then for Rebounds James Thomas (Texas) had 44 in one game. It sounds to me that maybe the WHOLE teams numbers were added and then in turn given to the game leader. Then it gave the games leading rebounder all of the teams rebounds?
On a side note. Are there any Monmouth fans? If so you will like Jason Krayl's 56 points against MD Baltimore Co. :)

Ok this isn't about reproducing someone's numbers this is about having a post game.
Ok, current College top 20 scorers:
PG 2
SG 12
SF 3
PF 3
C 0
TDCB top 30 scorers look like this:
PG 0
SG 14
SF 16
PF 0
C 0
As a matter of fact, there isn't 1 post player averaging 20ppg right now.
So as I was saying, I really don't care if it can perfectly mimic someones stats, but I would like a game where I can recruit big men and know they will show up in play by play to do something other than rebound, pass the ball, and foul. My best player you would think would be among my top 3 scorers, You would think a guy whose ratings rank him among the top 6 or 7 players in the game would be among his teams top 3 scorers.

Here are the stats from our testing of TDCB's 1.20 patch:
(Non-percentage fields are stat per 40 minutes)
PG SG SF PF C
FGM 5.11 6.89 6.23 6.78 3.25
FGA 11.60 15.08 13.22 13.47 6.33
FG% 44.01% 45.72% 47.16% 50.35% 51.41%
3PM 1.07 1.52 1.10 0.77 0.03
3PA 3.76 5.15 3.63 2.47 0.10
3P% 28.54% 29.43% 30.25% 31.15% 32.14%
2PM 4.03 5.38 5.14 6.01 3.22
2PA 7.84 9.92 9.59 11.00 6.23
2P% 51.43% 54.18% 53.57% 54.65% 51.72%
FTM 2.36 3.06 2.11 2.59 1.16
FTA 3.41 4.38 3.66 3.74 1.82
FT% 69.05% 69.91% 57.82% 69.20% 63.90%
Pts 13.64 18.36 15.68 16.92 7.70
I dont' have my spreadsheet with the leaders from our testing so I can't compare with what you found., but I can tell you the above results were similar across three different leagues.
Now these numbers are from stock TDCB generated leagues... are the numbers you are seeing from the TDCB generated league, or a league utilizing the "real roster" database?
I am intending get some testing of the "real roster" database and its results in the near future and I'm wondering if some of the stat issues that some users are seeing are related to the players created with the real roster database..

Ok, the problem with inside scoring appears to be with the real player imported rosters. If you play a career with the stock players you get a good breakdown of post vs. perimeter scoring.

While I was playing the demo for Tournament Dreams I spent about 30 mins adjusting my roster and looking at how the
recruiting system worked. When I tried to edit my strategy I got an error saying that I needed to reinstall windows...scared the crap out of me.

I'm kinda interested how the other bracket played out...(sorry to see Florida crap out against Arizona too...)
Hopefully Arizona vs Florida wasn't the final, I was looking for an all-Wildcat final.

I hadn't played since 1.18 because I was in Palm Springs working on a play. I got back and downloaded 1.21 and was blown away. Great changes, great tweaks. I love this game now. While it may not be perfect, it is really fun, and that's what keeps me hooked.
Great work 400. I bitched over the initial release, and I still think it was a disaster, but that aside 1.21 is a great game.
