View Full Version : Fictional rosters & starting year

I'm wanting to start a career in a year different than 2006. For whatever reason, looking at current and future dates make me compare my leagues to the NFL - which I don't want to do.

So I'm wanting to start a fictional in, say 1922. Now I know I can't adjust league size and such - but I'm almost sure I can do it. Here's the plan.

1. Make a roster file (.csv) with 1 player (with a 1895 birthday or so).
2. Convert the .csv file to a .fdt file with the Player file generator (setting the salary cap as I want & setting the year the career begins at 1922).
3. Start a new career (using alternate player file & begin with draft).
4. Draft and go.

Now, I think the game would generate the appropriate number of players to fill the league and that'd work. But I'm wondering - when doing this; how will the game generate players ? Will they be a bunch of scrubs, or will FOF follow it's usual generating formula ? My worry is that it won't be the same % of good/average/poor players that the future drafts will have, and future draftees will either not be good enough to make an impact or be better than the current players and in 3 years my league would be all players from the amateur draft.

Lol, I probably could've ran an experiment in the time it took to type out this question.

Dang. Not the best idea. Every player the game generated was a 21-23 yr. old rookie. Had a few centers, kickers, and DB's rated in the 70's.

Maybe you could start with that roster and just run in for 10 years so you have built up fresh players and a little history? The other choice would be to liberally use the rand() function in excel or do a search on the board (and check the stickied reference thread) because I'm pretty sure there was a fictional player file generator for FOF 2004 and I think it may have been updated to 2007.

I'd suggest starting the way you indicated, then doing a quicksim for like 5-10 years to rebuild the talent levels.

That might be a pretty cool alternate universe dynasty:

Soon after the end of WWI, the United States seeked an aide to post-war recovery. Baseball was still digging itself out of the Dead Ball era. Puncuated by the "Eight Men Out" scandal of 1919.

A group of young soldiers, two thousand strong -- with no real identity, with no other place to go -- joined together to form the first ever professional football association...

Here is their story.
