I am wondering what might be the best text based wrestling game out there. As i havent watched much wrestling the last few years i figured this could be a cool distraction. I would like something with some depth to it but that doesnt require a lot of manual scheduling like in TBCB2. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

The only one currently around is from Grey Dog.. I'd recommend waiting a few weeks and getting Total Extreme Warfare 2007 when it comes out.

Greydogsoftware has Total Extreme Warfare, it's extremely deep (way beyond TBCB) but it can be tedious for some.

Also, if you just want something free and simple, I'd recommend TEW's predecessor Extreme Warfare Revenge (EWR). If you search around a little there should be a few places with it to download, I think it also still has a little bit of a community. Solid game, deep game and a different approach than TEW. Personally I liked alot of the elements in EWR more than TEW.

Wrestling Spirit 2 from Grey Dog isn't bad, either.

I never tried V2, but what little I played V1 I just couldn't get into selecting moves during a match as it played out. Neat concept though.

For ease of play, I'm not sure anything is better than TNM.

If you're looking for elements such as financials, then it's a no go.
But if you want results with details (such as generating text descriptions for an e-fed) then it might still be the way to go even after all these years.

And to be honest, I would recommend considering several of the tabletop gaming options for sheer fun of playing (depending upon the level of patience you have for manual recordkeeping).

I really wanted to love TEW but it's probably the game I most associate with the word "clickfest". It's good, it's deep, but more than any game I've ever played in my life I found myself just wanting to survive running events after a short time.

I'm hopeful this has improved in the new version. But really, the TEW series is otherwise fantastic. Especially after the "Death of the Territories" mod is released. That universe starts in 1983, with 30 or so domestic promotions and wrestlers of the day (WCCW, AWA, WWF, Mid-South, Georgia, Florida, Portland, etc.). Great attention to detail in that thing.

I agree with the criticisms but to me it's one of the most immersive games out there. It's more like writing than playing. Of course, I use the DoTT scenario to get the wrestling I remember dearly from my youth and this really allows me to let my imagination run free. That's what I like.

Off topic, I just picked up the Roddy Piper DVD set. It's the first wrestling DVD's I've bought and I think it's a pretty good package. Hot Rod has always been one of my favorites and the DVD's really capture why. :)

molson & axxon -- As you might expect, I loved DoTT. The fact that I couldn't survive the clicking long enough to get all that far into DoTT speaks volumes (to me anyway) about just how bad the problem was.

DOTT is one of the best Mods for any sports sim IMO, maybe it's the nostalgia part for me, but it is just great fun.....I agree with Jon though, there is a ton for clicking and that can sometimes get a little old. TEW 2007 sounds great, I just don't know when the hell I could fit that in. Currently playing TBCB 2, TW Medievel 2, WWSM 2007, NWN 2 and restarting a TCY universe in anticipation of finally getting FOF 2K7.

I agree with JiMA on the tabletop things -- there's several good actual Roleplaying games that are wrestling based ... "Know Your Role" is actually pretty good.

Back in the day, me and a few friends actually created a RPG ruleset using Champions as a basis. I can send you a link to it if you're interested in that sort of thing.

(just to add some clarity to my original comment) There's also a recent surge in non-rpg wrestling games for the tabletop as well. The out-of-print Face To the Mat was almost elegantly simple to play. Recent entries into the genre include three different titles from Downey Games ranging from a quickplay format (results only) to a move by move version. B.J. George has the World Wrestling Game which is simple but provides both the flavor of individual wrestlers and is almost surprisingly fun to play while Dave Barton delivered several classics feds for his Retro Wrestling Game.

Plus there's anyways CoTG if you want fairly simple results, and a game you can play solo.
