While we're on the topic of cell phones, I thought I'd get this question in.
I actually put mine on quiet, where it just beeps once, but I say yes to option #2.

I used to bring it in and put it on vibrate, but I refuse to leave the theatre during a movie, so it didn't do me any good. I now just leave it in the car and if anybody needed to get ahold of me, well, that's why god invented voicemail. :)

i just turn mine off because i cant imagine anyone calling me with anything so important it couldnt wait 2 hours. However i dont have a problem with #2 if someone really wants to be interupted from their movie watching

Yes, if it's on vibrate and you leave to talk. Some of us have 3 year olds and babysitters and need to be available.

Dola - I don't even care if it's on vibrate. Everyone else can still hear it. Turn the damn thing off!

This is a theoretical answer, since my daughter is 3.5 and my wife and I still haven't gone to see a movie since she was born, but if we did and she was with a babysitter...
I would certainly leave it on vibrate. I think it would be irresponsible not to. Cut the parents some slack.

I agree with KSyrup.. vibrate is fine, generally you can't really hear it, and if you can only the person right next to you can, and they can deal..
What gets me... even more than the ringing.. is I've started having some really bad movie-going experiences which include punk teenagers (ugh.. getting old at 23.. sigh) who answer the damned phone and HAVE A CONVERSATION sitting there right next to you while the movie is going.
sigh.. guess i need to movie to sunday matinees ;)

How did parents go to the movies 10-15 years ago?
I remember my parents leaving me for the night, with a babysitter, or a grandparent. I know they didn't have a cell phone. :)

You take advantage of whatever technology you have. Since we have the capability, we should use it. If something ever happened and I had my phone off...

While I do understand the parents view on things. I believe that most phones have the ability to show you the number that is calling you. unless the call is from someone you know to not normally call you without a damned good reason, then you really should sit there and wait until the movie is over.
Most theatres I go to are quite full and if i were to get up in the middle of the movie I'm going to inconvenience and piss off a bunch of people.
I believe in turning off the ringer and if you do get a call, check the number and decide if its really necessary to get up and bother everyone else first. Then at least go outside to respond.

I ran a theatre from 88-95 and I've removed people for far less complaints from other movie goers. So, if you pissed off someone else in the theatre with your stupid cell phone, I'd kick your ass out. That's one thing I loved about that job.

I agree with RendeR, put it on vibrate, check the number and call back later. Unless it's an ermergency call, such as who-ever is whatching your kid(s) (assuming they have common sense not to call you for the stupidest little reasons).
I also see thos who voted straight up yes haven;t stood up and said why they feel that way. HM and who else? :D

If it wasn't, I'm sure everyone would just look the other way. :)
And who are the 3 assmunchers who said yes!?

I am not sure it matters. I haven't been to a movie in the past year where there weren't a group of jackassess sitting behind us talking all damn movie anyway.
I agree it's ok to leave it on vibrate and leave the theatre if your going to talk.
