Are these reliable at all?

I can't answer for laptops but I purchased a refurbished Gateway PC off Tiger Direct almost 2 years ago and have had no problems with it at all.

No idea. My one refurb attempt was a Canon printer that was DOA when I received it. I've been soured on them ever since (the printers and the refurb thing).

I've been getting refurb computers - incl a laptop - from Dell Outlet for years and I've never had a problem with one. Never.

Same with me. I've bought 2 desktops, a monitor and a laptop through Dell Outlet, and no unusual problems. I had a hard drive die after 3 years on my most recent desktop, but that's within normal parameters (and I was able to get a technician to recover my data) and my 9 year old CRT monitor finally died, but that's also a pretty damn good lifespan. I have a new LCD monitor on the way from Dell Outlet. No issues whatsoever from my laptop which I bought 2 summers ago.

In short, given that you can get the refurbished items from Dell with the same service warranties as their new products, I have no qualms about going that route.
