Wii Available for Purchase 12/29: The Nintendo Wii will again be available for purchase on Amazon.com on 12/29, Friday morning, at some point between 7am and 11am PST. We will be limiting purchases to one per household. We anticipate that we will sell through our inventory very quickly as demand for this product continues to be very high. At this time, we do not have any information on future Nintendo Wii offers, but we will post updates on future availability on this page.

I believe the PS3 will also be available tomorrow, along those same lines.

Thanks for the heads up. I will look into this tomorrow morning. Not sure I will snap one up, but if I'm on at the right time, I might do it.

We had 27 Wii in stock at work today.

Made a 6-year-old's day. He came in with his dad to see if we had any just a couple minutes after the truck carrying them arrived.

Were you at Best Buy at 11 am today?

No?

What's your problem?

No. Noon. And last night. And 4 other stores.

No. Noon. And last night. And 4 other stores.

Well, I know at my store, we were sold out by noon. Got to work at 10 to see a note in the system that said "Stores will be getting them, sell them as you receive them."

We received them at 11. We sold them. Come about five to noon, they were gone.

Carpe diem.

Carpe canum? Seize the dog? 5 point bonus to anyone who gets the reference ;)

And a good luck to anyone trying to score a Wii system in the next 3 months.

Without looking this up, I remember hearing this in some animated TV series. I can't remember if it was "The Critic" or "Dilbert", though.

The Critic, one of the most underrated animated shows of all time.

And that sound you heard was millions of people clicking the refresh button on Amazon's Wii page.

I think the most underrated. My favorite animated show that still isn't in production today.

I have decided I'm not buying from Amazon. They have a note on there that will let them take as long as they want on shipping basically. I wouldn't be surprised they will oversell what they have.

Reread it. I'm reading it as saying that when they start selling them, there will be a date stating the anticipated delivery, but IMMEDIATELY after completing your purchase you may receive a different date. Or in other words, the date you're given when you see the order page may differ from the date you're given when you complete the order. I'm sure that is dependend on your position in the queue.

If you receive a different date, you can always cancel your order. If you really want one, I wouldn't bypass this opportunity.

I never saw it say they went on sale and I've been hitting refresh non stop. About how long ago?

Attention: We are currently out of stock. Allocations of the Wii have been limited but we are working with Nintendo to secure future allocations. We will provide updates on the product detail page as well as in the customer discussions on this page when we have availability.

Has anyone heard anything in terms of a guesstimate as to how long it is expected that Wii's will be under-stocked in North America?

My wife has been told anywhere from 3 to 6 months by different stores in the last few weeks.

Wow, that sucks :(

Back in the summer I remember getting the impression that Nintendo was going to have a large supply of these things by the end of the year, and that it really wouldn't be the crazy rat-race that the PS3 or 360 were/are. Was I totally misunderstanding things at the time? Or has demand for the Wii escalated to a point that no one expected?

I think it is more that the demand is much higher than expected. I know that we had no plans to try to get a Wii this past summer, but once my wife saw one in action at a friend's place, she wanted one. I know most of my friends had no plans to get one, but now want one. The gamestop where I usually shop says the demand is much higher than they expected until they actually got their hands on one and saw how much fun it was, and then they knew that it was going to be much more popular than the initial projections.

PS3 allotment sold out as well. Both systems were gone in a hurry.

I stopped in Best Buy the other day (Wednesday afternoon IIRC) to browse and they had about a dozen Wii's in stock - first time I've seen it. I had to fight the immediate impulse to grab one, but I'm simply not interested in it right now.

No dice from my local GameStop or EB.
