Well, he was the first overall pick in my 1983 draft:

His agent, Melvin Powell, doesn't seem like he's a tough agent:

The strange thing after I finished my season was that there was only one guy in the draft who didn't sign with his team...Dan Marino. I checked with the Cardinals to see if they didn't have enough money to sign him and found that they were $35,990,000 under the cap ($89,200,000). They had 40.34% of their cap space left and Dan Marino didn't sign with them. Instead, they went with this stud:

I just don't see a team not signing the #1 overall pick in the draft when they're 40.34% under the cap. More to follow as I do the 1984 draft.

Maybe the team was so bad he didn't want to be on it?

I've seen this happen a couple times in my leagues. The #1 pick has so many rookies and junk on thier team, and oddly they cant get their #1 pick signed all season.

I almost said something smart about Arizona and Marino and Super Bowls and it being a foregone conclusion then that the AI did the right thing and all that but...I decided not to.

I actually have a similar situation where a 1.1 QB sat on the bench for 8 seasons while a guy rated around 50/50 led the team. That 50/50 QB was a 1.8 selection the year before, and I wonder how much is the new scout variable that is at play here and therefore playing tricks on us. The 1.8 guy might just be rated better according to that teams scout vs the 1.1.

Still begs to question why that team picked up a 1.1 QB when they already had a 1.8 from the year before....but that might just be the new draft code forcing the "best player available" early on in the draft logic.

Dan Marino was drafted again 1st overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He signed in the 1st week of Exhibition Games.

His loyalty is 0, maybe he just didn't want to sign with Arizona. :)

I had Peyton Manning drafted #1 overall by the Texans and he has sat on the bench without throwing a pass for 4 seasons now. The Texans actually went to two AFC Championships during this time with a scrub at QB.
