Draft Oddity

So I was checking out the rookie crop of 2018 and noticed that the top rated player on the board had already had their name turn blue. I had yet to interview anyone though. So I click to get his player card, see that I had interviewed him before last season's draft, and then notice the notation under injury and transaction history says, 2018 FASt1 SCR Re-enter draft. I decided to move ahead just to see what would happen and he did end up being selected 1st overall.

The situation would be perfectly sensible to me with someone not as talented, but I'm not sure how to interpret what's going on when he's far and away the most talented player on this year's board. I'm sure it would make for some great dynasty backstory. Do we have an 'if the Chargers had kept Eli Manning' scenario here? Or is there some other scenario I'm not thinking about?

This would be a player who never signed with the team that drafted him.

If a player holds-out for the year, they re-enter the draft.

I've seen this way too many times. It's frustrating, cuz a team drafted this stud WR at #4 overall and didn't sign all year (even though they had the cap space). He got drafted #1 the next year and won ROTY.

Why is it frustrating? I just attribute it to the team drawing a line in the sand. It's the JD Drew Experience come to the NFL!

I've actually done this with a few of my draftees, but usually they're 2nd-4th round picks who grade out terribly, so instead of rolling the dice, signing them, and potentially wasting my bonus money on them for 3-4 years, I just refuse to sign them and let them go back into the draft. I can always find serviceable vets with better current ratings at a low cost and usually no bonus to replace them on the roster on a year-by-year basis, so why throw away the bonus money?
