This is a player file for the 2006 season, with individual position-specific ratings assigned. It encompasses every noteworthy starter(and many not so noteworthy), as well as most noteworthy backups. I initially made it for my own league, but figured I might as well see if anybody else would also like to use it. I dont claim perfection, or that everybody will agree with every player's rating assignments...but this file should be a nice alternate from the default.
This file contains about 20 more players than the default player file, as the goal of this file was to capture the style of the players in the NFL, with a little more granularity than by default, and with another season of hindsight. As many have noted, however...there is still a degree of randomness to these ratings, even when individual ratings are assigned. (For example: Merriman is one of the highest rated players in the file, yet on one of my tests, he came out as a 51. Not terrible, but no where close to the file's ratings. This only happened once, but YMMV.)
There are a few items I've noticed & tried to account for in testing & creating the file...but in the spirit of not getting overly long-winded, here is one worth mentioning.
In my tests with the default player file(and subsequent rating assignments), I noticed Punt Avg & Punts I-20 seemed a little higher(in both cases) than what I found from NFL statistics. I was able to compensate reasonably well for the Punt Avg, but the I-20 numbers were a little more difficult to modify, without compromising the positives & negatives of different styles of punters. Naturally, this will not apply to punters who are created by the draft process, and in turn, could lead to rookies replacing established punters a little more frequently than otherwise. I did not notice this becoming a major trend, but it did seem like a plausable outcome.
Edit: Feedback is welcome...but please understand/help with 2 things if you'd like to help make this file more accurate:
1) If you notice a rating(s) for somebody that seems low/high, please list that rating(s) so that I know whether it was the rating I assigned, or the game's importing/scout's deviation.
2) My main goal for the file was to try to portray the players in the NFL "that matter". This includes starters, potential starters, & future prospects, as well as the occasional sentimental "old guy", but also includes KR/PR specialists. There are also many special teams players that are very solid which I did not exhaustively rate, but if you let me know some of these guys, I will try to get them in as well.
I know there will be some "roster fodder" players here & there who are not on the correct team, or listed in general. This wasnt what I wanted to do in the time I had to put it together.
Have fun, enjoy, & let me know if there are any issues with the file.
