http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/12/new-egm-reveals-guitar-hero-1980s-edition-ps2/

The new issue of EGM (February no. 212) has the goods on a few unannounced games according to Gaming Target, namely Guitar Hero: 1980s Edition for the PS2. The title is expected to ship sometime this spring (alongside Guitar Hero II for the Xbox 360 maybe?). And though a 3-4 month release for an unannounced game seems oddly quick, EGM merely states, "trust us; it's coming." More Van Halen better be on that if true.

I wasn't impressed by the song list in GH2, but I'll be first in line for GH80s.

I'm surprised that they said it's coming THIS spring!

Yeah, I saw that. I'm having my wife order it online for my birthday in a few weeks. Sorry to have killed this thread before it got started by posting everything in the other thread.

Actually this thread came first, I think, but everything ended up being posted in the one GH thread that was already around. I'm all for consolidation.

Played for a couple of hours last night. A littl disappointed, actually. Like the soundtrack but the complete and utter lack of extras make me glad that in the end, this will basically end up costing me $25.

I agree. I made it through about 3 or 4 levels last night on easy, just to play through them. No encore, no nothing. Feels like they spent a couple of weekends putting this together and are going to rake in the cash.

You don't play encores on easy. I only have Play With Me left to beat on hard, and I've had an encore on every level. I'm still disappointed in the recycled venues and the removal of some characters. If I would have spent $50 on this game I would be very disappointed, but at $25 it's a great value.

Oh, well that's cool, had forgotten that. But yeah, seeing as though it feels like they just took the other games and stuck new songs in there, it definitely isn't worth more than like $30, tops.

i still like the song list better than gh2 (but stop with the joke songs, please! limozeen? there werent enough good songs in the entire decade??)

only have the last song to beat on expert. most of the tracks were fun. no complaints for whats basically an expansion pack.

Damn, boy! At least I'll stretch my fun out a couple of months and feel like I got something for $40. Two days and you're done?!

Pyser

eh, its quickly become a gh tradition for me and my buddy. blast through in one night, then go back and do all the co-op and "beat my score" type stuff

besides, whats to save? the whole fun in the game is the replay value.

Ksyrup

See, I'm just the opposite. Aside from a few tracks here and there and now, playing with my daughter, I very rarely go back. I don't even like to practice, which is why I can't even get through Hard, I guess. In order for it to have that kind of replayability, I'd have to hand-pick the soundtrack.

well, one of us is weird.

i think its you.

I guess I play the game not for the challenge of it, but just for fun. Which is why the song selection is so important, and why I don't care so much about being perfect or mastering the game on Expert. As difficult as I think it would be on Expert (or hell, for me, towards the end on Hard), it would be less fun and more work - both in having to constantly practice and having to play songs I don't really like over and over.

Maybe I just remember my years of practicing piano and they don't bring back good memories. I don't know.

I'll agree, chuck, although I stopped playing for a while because I could not get past Bark at the Moon on Medium.

I'm all for replayability of the game. I love just popping in the game and playing some of my favorite tracks. Beating the game is great and all, some day I may even get up to expert for more than a few tracks, but I just love playing the game on hard since you really do feel like you're playing most of the notes.

My problem with the easier levels is that I know some of the songs so well, and they leave out so many notes to make it easier, that it trips me up sometimes. I'll be trying to play notes that are in the song but not on the screen. Between that and just completely screwing up at least 1 note every song for whatever reason, I usually miss out on getting a perfect score on most songs, even on easy.

And then, of course, my problem with the Hard/Expert levels is that I'm not good enough to play all of the notes in the song OR on the screen! :D

Ok, I'm warming up to this. The soundtrack really is quite good (tho it starts to fall apart late in 5, early in 6 again kindof like how GH2 has some crap in 7 and 8). I've beaten all but Extreme on Hard and started off on Expert. Fun stuff to play and just listen to.
