My coed - indoor soccer team played for the league title tonight. Both teams had records of 5-2-0(undefeated) and hadn't played each other yet this session. They clearly had superior quality players to ours. A couple of guys could just flat our kill the ball. The first 5 minutes of the game was them unloading it at our goalie, for the life of us, we could not clear it out. But they didn't score and we held on and scored first.
The thing that our team had going for it was our teamwork. We moved the ball much, much better and layed some really killer passes onto our players. Their strategy involved working it to one of their 4 stud players, who would try and be a superman.
We went into half winning 4-1, we were shocked. We lost our poise early in the second half, but settled down and went up again. They got an extra attacker, which from a defender's point of view they really didn't need, and basically played a man down for the rest of the game.
Anyway the short of the long is that we won 7-4, undefeated, and a team that is made up of throw-together players who have only been playing together for 2 sessions.
It just feels good to be the Champs at something. I havn't been on a competetive team since high school, so it feels good to be winning again.
WOOHOOO!
