Catching this late after catching up to 24 via TiVo. Looks like it's a replay of the original broadcast, with original graphics, etc. Not done the same way as the "NFL Greatest Games" that have aired on ESPN (and now NFLN). I really hope they show old games this way on a regular basis, I think it's fantastic.
I also have to say...it is good to hear Gifford in the booth with Michaels and Dierdorf. Reminds me of the days when Monday Night Football was still Monday Night Football.

They are showing a bunch of the Super Bowls this way leading up to this years Super Bowl. I think I saw that Thursday is Rams vs. Patriots.

BTW; that America's Game series is really good stuff. I hope it gets released on DVD.

Yep, saw an ad not long after I posted. That's probably too new a vintage for me to get too excited, but I'm looking forward to others. I'd *love* to watch ones that were from before I was born or could remember them, and the ones from the 80's where I really started paying attention.

I would love to see thew titans a nd rams super bowl that was one of the best ones. Also, I saw on espn 2 during wednseday afternoon they are playing the Dolphins vs. Chargers playoff game tht went like three overtimes. I remember that game as being on of the best games I ever saw. I remember players being carried and dragged off the field like it was gladiator battle . dan fouts and Kellen winslow were in that one. Ah memories:)

Clearly, Broncos/Packers is the greatest Super Bowl ever.
Clearly.

I heard somewhere a while ago that the NFLN was in the process of making available not only original broadcasts of Super Bowls, but also all games ever played. I think this was part of an on-demand system where you'd have to pay to watch each game. I just can't remember where I read this.
I would gladly pay to watch some of these games, especially if they're the original broadcasts and not the crappy remixes of poor camera angles and radio announcers.

I taped it - a good excuse for the Ciervos to come visit!
Anyway - seeing something like this is great now - because I loved football back then, but didn't "know" anything about it. Seventeen years later and countless hours of FOF, Edge NFL Matchup, Football Outsiders, etc and I feel like I am watching a completely different game. Really fantastic.

Are you IMetTrentGreen? Are you Huckleberry? No. You don't know jack shit about football.

Well I certainly know that Tommy Harris will never make it in professional football!

Actually, Pumpy, IMetTrentGreen and Huckleberry are the only board members who know anything about COLLEGE football. I'm pretty sure it was qualified this way...

I think a great series for the offseason would involve replaying a past season as if it were actually happening, e.g. games on sundays and mondays with an update or highlight show afterward and a preview/review show during the week similar to Inside The NFL on HBO.
Call it Your Father's NFL, or something like that..

Vince Papale. Also, what about all the players who came out of the SEC? They didn't go to college.

Tom Brady is not only a better parcheesi player than Peyton Manning, he's a better parcheesi player than EVERY QUARTERBACK WHO EVER PLAYED IN THE SEC. Including Rohan Davey.

Even though the Packers lost, I would agree it is one of the best. The 3 Packers wins are all better though. ;)

Gah - I forgot there was a game on Monday, and it was SB XIII. Would have been a good one.

DUDE.. You ever played Rohan when he uses his "Riders" technique? He is better than anyone, including Brady, when he wants to be.

DOLA- Never mind, I was thinking of backgammon for some reason. He is better at backgammon than anyone.. Brady whips ass at Parcheesi though, so you were right about that.

I think it would have been kind of awesome if there had been a "Rohan's Riders" fan club down in Baton Rouge. Hell, it would have been more awesome if there'd been one in Foxboro.

Damnit. First regular season games moved to the NFL Network, now the Super Bowl!? What a crock.

I Tivo'd and watched that game the other day.
It's the first time I've seen it in its entirety since it actually happened... and back, then, I was in 7th grade.
It's incredible to watch. I had forgotten how bad the Redskins looked in the 1st quarter. Elway throws a touchdown on his first play from scrimmage. On the next drive, he takes them to field goal range. Then, to end the quarter, Doug Williams hyperextends his knee, and goes out. For two plays, we see Jay Schroeder get sacked, and then throw an incomplete pass. Mark Rypien is standing on the sidelines in street clothes (he spent his first two seasons with the team on IR... this was an old Gibbs trick back in the day). It was a disaster of a game. I must have been losing my mind watching it as a kid.
But this time, I'm watching, and I'm actually starting to feel sorry for Elway an the Broncos. Because they're riding high going into the second quarter, and they have no idea that they're about to have the worst 15 minutes in Super Bowl history.
And then the sympathy fades, and I enjoy seeing my 'Skins pound the crap out of Denver. I'm only saddened seeing guys like Dexter Manley (who burned out on coke and got kicked out of the league) and Timmy Smith (who never amounted to anything after that game, and was recently arrested on drug charges... in Denver, of all places).
At the end of the game, I saw Pete Rozelle give Jack Kent Cooke the Lombardi Trophy, and it made me long for the good old days... when our owner had class.
Anyway, kudos to the NFL Network for re-playing these games in their entirety. What a great way to re-live the glory days.
