View Full Version : How Many Threads Do You Subscribe To?

So, I started a subscription to Flasch's Civ 4 Democracy thread, since I never check the dynasty forum, and I want to participate in it. This was the first time I'd ever intentionally subcribed to a thread. I knew that I had done it once unintentionally -- I somehow subscribed to a "funny names in FOF" thread that kept getting bumped. However, when I added this Civ 4 thread to my subscriptions, it said that I had TEN threads in that folder! I guess I must accidentally click some button that subscribes me to threads pretty easily. Anyway, my favorite old subcription was this one, where I discuss the Lions playoff chances as they get ready for their Week 17 matchup against the lowly Bears...how times have changed (and damn you Paul Edinger -- only a Michigan State grad would face *away* from the ball as he kicks it hi Schmidty!).

So how many threads do y'all have subscribed, and are any of them unintentional like mine?

I subscribe to every thread which I reply to. You must have had that option ticked on at one point, made a few replies and got tired of getting notifications then turned it off if you only have 10 subscribed threads.
About threads in which I have not posted, it happens fairly rarely but funny enough, that democracy thread is one of them. :)

Generally, I only subscribe (with the instant notification) to the threads I want to follow closely, but in my subscribed threads directory I also have some stuff "saved" (dynasties I've enjoyed reading, FAQs, useful infos about games...)

Every thread I posted in until I figured out how to turn that setting off. So there's a few from over a year ago that still pop up every now and then - "What's the price of gas in your area", and "South Park". Yes, I'm sure I could shut those off too.

I am only subscribed to this thread. Why not just look for the little arrow to the left that shows you have posted in the thread? It would seem to save you from getting about 25 e-mails a day.

I don't mind the mutiple emails since I use gmail and every new email will be under only one thread of mail. If I delete the mail thread, I delete the many emails. Also, the notification only sends one email until I visit back the board. I like it that way...

Every thread where i post in, for example this one from now.
Why would you subscribe to a thread? I didn't know you could.

If you are subscribed, you receive an email everytime anybody posts in that thread. I have it enabled in my admin panel for every thread where i post, so i can know if anybody answered without having to visit the board.

yeah, as Icy said and not only that, the notification email, which only comes on the first reply to the subscribed thread until you visit the forum again (i.e. not after every post), contains a direct link to the thread. I often only take a look at the thread I was notified about without even looking at the list of threads...

Seeing how I hate to keep pulling out my credit card for each subscription, regardless of the easy installment plan, I subscribe to zero.

Weird- no one subscribes to threads? I like having emails from the threads I've posted in. Sometimes, when I'm in a hurry and only have 15 or so minutes to check stuff, I want to see the threads I posted in previously, so I'll just look at those. Currently, there's 2130, a bit of overkill, definitely. I clean them out once in a while but I just haven't done it lately.

For that, I just look for the little dot that means I've posted in it. That way if something really cool catches my eye, I can at least preview that, or just read the title. The only thread I subscribe to is that Civ 4 Democracy thread, just because I often forget to check out the dynasty forum, so I need notification to help me remember I'm involved in that.
