View Full Version : Dream Job....No More (Anyone Hiring)

Wow....well what can I say, after working for the company for a year, I get a phone call late last night.

I was recently promoted to Director of Field Operations for our company, and I have(had) a team of close to 20 guys underneath me.

Our company folded today due to personal issues with the owner of the company and his divorce which in turn, slams financial implications to us. So instead of us out on tour and being stranded, the president of the company figured it would be safer for us to fold the company.

So, I just had to tell a good friend who quit his job to come work for me he doesn't have one, I had to make a call to Cringer and let him know as well.

So today, I am now jobless and looking...anyone know of companies hiring that pay well, I am willing to relocate, hell I was on my way up to Buffalo for this company.

holy crap, that's a sucker punch. :(

Best of luck in the job search, to you and Cringer too!

I know all too well how a seemingly great job/career path can suddenly disappear. I wish you well and hope you are able to make a quick and painless transition to another good opportunity.

I need a programmer lackey in Chicago for a couple months?

Seriously though, I've been there. A couple of times. Good luck to you, you'll get something soon.

Cringer

Yeah. Heck of a morning.

Not even sure which way to go right now. I was hoping I was done with traditional driving for a while, at the least. I can not see what else I can get into at this point though. I want a job like I just lost, a little drivin', a little something else. Going back to Emerson is easy to do, I just don't really want to do it. So I am looking, too. Atleast for now.

Good luck to Dennis. Was good to work with you for a bit.

It was a blast, Applebees...my bar away from home.....

Funny thing is, some of the guys asked me to try and buy the company....

Wow, they promote you and then a few days later you are out? It must really suck.

Anyway, after what we talked past week by AIM and seing how small is this internet world, I guess you know which kind of work you should do, don't you? :)

I can chip in about $50. Heck, maybe $100.

Yeah, would be nice if something happened real quick to keep the company around, but I can't count on that. I am going to look for a decent solo driving job first I guess, and if I don't see anything it's back to Emerson.

Naw it wasn't a few days, I was promoted in December.

Keep me posted on what you here/know please. I liked the job a lot and already have so much time and energy put into it. If it is to be resurrected in a respectable amount of time then I want in. It is sinking in that I have to go back to Emerson, and despite the excellent pay and benefits that they give for drivers I just don't want to go back there right now and drive team again.

I've very sorry for both of you, Macro and Cringer. It sounds like you will both land on your feet, but it also sounds like you really didn't want to have to go though all of the pain and shit of finding new jobs.

Good jobs are hard to get. It totally sucks when you have one and it just goes away out of the blue.

I know the pain of losing the dream job, since mine ended a few months ago.

But it looks like I'll be starting a contract job at the end of the month. Not the glamorous, jet-setting job that I had before, but the rate was right, the work sounded interesting, and I can keep a roof over my head.

I'm not kidding. Obviously I have no idea how much this company would cost to buy, but if it's feasible for a bunch of people on here to put together a small investment, we should give it a shot.

I think most people would want a lot more information on the company and the situation before they would consider it as a serious investment opportunity.

Sorry about the loss of your gigs, btw.

Well, here is a brief update....

1) I am working with some of the other directors of the company to purchase it out right. Right now, I am working on the business plan, marketing strategy, and everything else that is needed. I have the total amount of cash needed, and several local investors potentially lined up for this.

2) While I am doing this, I am still looking for a job, just in case. With the company folding, I am only getting one more paycheck, one week after my final payday, I look at myself as 3 weeks without a paycheck.

Ideally, I would like #1 to come into fruition and I am working toward that goal, however it scares the hell out of me starting up and running a company providing the services we are to Wal-Mart. It's why I am still doing stuff for #2.

This has definately been a rollercoaster 2 days.

Cringer
01-20-2007, 11:18 PM
Go #1!

Although I am doing #2 already also. This snuck up on my out of the blue, and is a big bite in the butt. I am financially not prepared to miss more then a paycheck or two right now unfortunately.

Macro let me know if you come up short on funds to purchase the company i have some private investors that could be interested in the right scenario.

Flash pm me your contact info. I have a couple of commercial deal i am working on in Florida and would be interested in working with you if you handle commercial real estate. If not i would pay a nice referal fee for any commercial business you refered.

So I guess I will give a little mini-update on myself.

I kind of have a job offer (as with most jobs driving that is how it goes because they have to check out your driving record, get a background check done, and have a drug screen done before they can actually commit to you).

The bad news is I think I will have to turn it down. It's a company that does several special events productions. One of the things I see they did this year from their website was the stage for the NFL on Fox Road Show(the stage Terry, Howie, and Jimmy sit on at stadiums). What they are hiring for is to work their Nextel Experience thing that goes to most of the Nextel Cup races. SOme giant setup that requires 7+ trucks to move around and takes two days to set up.

Unfortunately the pay offered is too low, especially considering one expense they expect me to take on myself instead of covering it themselves. So, very cool sounding job, but unless they come up with more money it's going to have to be a no go.

Had another company call me this morning, not sure where that will go. They seem to do some similar things as the one above, but more with product promotion/marketing.

Going to call on another one right now I guess.

As for re-starting up the company, I have the business plan almost final, and I am waiting to hear back from some people....
