Ok, this is starting to drive me nut and I am basically just venting here.

Out of a job since Friday, it came as a big surprise. So I am trying to find a similar job because I enjoyed that one so much. I would prefer not going back to normal old trucking right now.

So Friday I hit the web and started searching for companies that did something close to what I was doing. I found some. I sent out resume's, applied online for one, called another. I have no problem saying that I kick ass at my primary job, driving. I am damn good, and I am not a redneck or major fat slob either. I can even handle myself alright on the marketing side of the job and talk to people. I am not great, but I drive a truck so I am not expected to be great. :D These companies have been VERY interested in me.

I have now walked away from several of those companies when they would have given me a job. One company would have had me at every NASCAR event, as part of Nextel setup they do that requires 7 plus trucks and takes 2 days to set up. The pay wasn't high enough though when I took into account the insurance and the fact that they had this annoying little policy that I would have to pay for my hotel when at the company HQ (1-2 week stints). They basically want you to move there. Bye bye to that one.

Another one was going to be a tour of 7-8 months, no time off. Bye bye to that one.

There is some company from PA that I walked away from that I can't even remember the reason now.

Just told some guy from a place 15 minutes ago I couldn't do it because the tours were too long. They wanted me for one of two PS3 promotional tours, one lasting 8 months with no breaks, the other for 11 months with a few one week breaks for holidays. Big double pop-out trailers with Hi-Def TVs and PS3's, would have been cool. Bye bye to that one.

I am down to only a couple places left out of 6 or 7 I started with, and I have NOT been rejected once. It is starting to drive me nuts, and I am getting stressed. Not to mention the wife is also, which just makes things worse for me. ;)

I am a day or two away from going to a normal trucking job. I just don't have the time to sit around and wait. Not sure how easy it will be to get out of it once I am back into it. I can't be jumping from job to job.

Sounds like it could be a lot worse.

It could be. Any situation could be worse.

It's just a rant.....

I second any job search angst and will commiserate with anyone who has such. I've had too many times in my life of looking for the right job to not remember how much it stinks to not have much luck.

Yeah, ditto on the sympathy, and I certainly hope you find what you want.

Hey man, good people are hard to find, and I'm sure you'll land on your feet with a great opportunity. Keep your head up - something *will* come along - and if you have to take a lesser job while you search for a keeper, there's no shame in that. Even Dwight Schrute worked at Staples for a week ;)

Thanks guys. Not a huge deal, just stressing some I guess as I get close to the one week day and the last paycheck is about to come in. Had to vent and my daughter wouldn't understand it if I did it to her. :D

Cringer,

I am right there by you buddy....but here is my vent..

I have submitted my resume to over 100 companies this week all across the U.S, and since then, I have had get this....1 call back from a company in Jacksonville, and then he said he was going to email me some information, it never came, I have since called back to let him know I haven't received it, and for some reason, he isn't available and isn't returning calls, and you know how annoying I can get if I want to...

Anywas, here I sit, with zero offers, no chance in hell of getting something before Friday, and just being as frustrated. The market is out there, it's just people are getting picky, and I am in that grey area of not enough education for most Director positions and over qualified for most mid and low level management positions, I know when I am getting filtered and man it is happening big time now...

Just frustrated right now as well....good luck....call me if you need to vent over the phone...right now, my wife is calling our former company a bunch of names, and they are not nice...

Not trying to win...had to do it, or I was going to snap and drink myself into a blind stupor tonight...I have managed to stay away from the depression juice since finding out....

Oh, and if anyone reading this knows of any companies hiring Trainers (Software or Technology based preferred) let me know...

And if anyone posts a link to one of the career sites, it will not get pretty...trust me, that realm has been exhausted.

I am trying the networking thing right now....LinkedIn, here I come.....

LinkedIn, here I come.....

Not to sound discouraging, but since their move towards a revenue model, a lot of people who used to use LinkedIn religiously were turned off with their overnight change to a money-grubbing operation. If they would have done it more gradually, or if they introduced a lot more features to justify what they were charging, then it might have been a different story. LinkedIn was one of the resources I used for my recent job search, and I was disappointed in how much the site has dropped off in the past 6 to 8 months.

Yeah I have noticed that, but it's the last online resource I have yet to use....

Sorry about your situation Cringer and Macroguru, I'm sure you both will end finding a good job.

Off topic now, do you get paid per week in every job in the US? In Spain you get paid once per month in every month, of course you pay all the bills once per month too, rent, gas, phone etc etc. It must be a nightmare to need to pay all the bills once per week, tons of checks to sign, etc. I prefer our model of once per month, of course you need to be smart enought to not to waste it all the first week as it must last a whole month.

I think most people in the US get paid every two weeks, but still pay bills once per month. It's kind of a weird system, because that means you usually get two paychecks per month, but every once in a while, you'll get three. Personally, I just get paid on the 1st and 15th.

As was said, most jobs are either Every other week or twice a month.

I love the "extra" money when we get paid three times a month. My next month like that will be in April, I think.

Well, I go in tomorrow morning for an Interview, it's about time, however it is for a contract position and it is only 3-4 months long, but it is enough to help out.

I have been paid every week for 8 years now. I got a little too used to it I guess.

Good luck MacroGuru

So, having given up on the former company regrouping somehow, and not finding anything acceptable in in a similar area that start next week ( ;) ), I went ahead and filled out a couple online pre-applications with a couple trucking companies last night.

I am not thrilled with it because I was really hoping to land something close to what I just lost. Maybe down the line a bit, especially since a new company means a waiting period for insurance. Gives me some time to keep an eye out for something.

One funny thing. Had one trucking company recruiter get back to me already this morning. She asked about the former job and what happened there, as expected since it only lasted a few months. Then she looks at my job before that with Emerson. She takes a look at my years there and was practically speechless. She then says "You were there for a very, very long time huh?" The trucking industry is pretty sad when 7 1/2 years at a company seems like forever to some people, but that is how it is.

Update....

I am taking a job with a trucking company. I will hop on a bus Monday morning and go up to the Dallas area for three days of orientation (which seems a little fricking long to me but whatever, eh?).

It's a normal, OTR company. I will get to do a lot of regional (Texas) work though. Should get some drive-bys, which means unofficial hometime for a half a day or day, because of this. I don't believe the recruiter 100% (you never should), but I have always had a good impression of this company so they were my top choice.

I get the impression Loren isn't happy about it, mainly because the easier route would have been to go back to Emerson. Plus I won't have set days off every week like I would with Emerson, though I should still be home weekly. I don't want to drive team though. I hate the whole thought of it right now. To balance things out, I am not real happy going back to OTR trucking, but I gots to do what I gots to do.
