may sound kinda dumb, but make sure its FULLY SEATED in the AGP slot. Had something similar to this. Did you drop it on a carpeted floor? If so it should be fine. Could be static electricity issues if it was carpeted.

1) Clean with some kind of air-shooter thingy. Get off any dirt that may have gotten on it.

2) As Phillies said, make sure it's FULLY in the AGP slot. Had this happen to a freind. Spent a half hour trying to figure out what was wrong. All I did was look at it, push in the video card, and all was fine.

3) If you need to buy a new card and you have $200, go with the same card. GeForce4 4200.

EDIT: Also, if you can, get a hold of another AGP video card from a friend or someone and try that. Make sure the AGP slot is working before you fault the card.

You can get ones with 128 MB RAM for much less than $200 these days. :)

Well it done, the card is fried... So I ordered a new one last night, I went a little cheap, got a GF4 440se Mx for around $50 on the net. The card has DDR and a 128bit memory path so I thought it will work for now.. until the FX2 comes out...

Thanks for the help sabotai, by the way your football game looks great, if you need some beta testers keep me updated....

Sorry to hear about your video card. Losing a nice card is no fun.

However, I have to say that when I read the title of this thread I was really hoping that it was going to be about cheese. Imagine my disappointment...:(

Well, I would suggest going to PriceWatch to shop for your video card rather than going retail. You generally save $50-$100 that way, which basically allows you to move up a model.

Using today's prices, $200 gets you either

GF4 Ti4600 8x 128MB

or

Radeon 9500 Pro 128MB ($180, actually)

Which are roughly equivalent.

The same $200 at Best Buy gets you the 128MB Ti4200, or the same 9500 Pro (that's $220 minus a $20 mail in rebate).
