Hello all,

Long time lurker, and fairly new poster around here.

I'm a Fire Captain in Northern California and thought I'd share a couple funny photos I took on a call last night while at work.

We were dispatched to a non-injury traffic collision resulting in a "Hazardous Condition." Upon arrival, this is what we found: (I downsized them, so hopefully they aren't too huge)

The only part of the car actually touching the ground was the driver's side corner of the rear bumper. The vehicle is actually suspended by the "guide wire" coming from a power pole.

The driver (not drunk or under the influence of anything as it turns out) stated that he had just gotten off work and attempted to take a corner "at only about 5 mph." His front tires "lost traction" and he over corrected and ended up in the final resting position. Makes complete sense! (Witnesses told a different story about his driving habits however).

Anyways, in the end I guess you can give him credit for creative paralell parking.

Cheers!

How'd they get it down?

That's a story in and of its self.

We initially stabilized the vehicle using cribbing (blocks of wood we carry on the fire engine that we stack up and keep it from rocking around) and a vehicle anchor cable.

When the tow driver got there, he requested we remove our equipment so he could get it down. The somewhat arrogant tow driver told us "I can get this down by myself in less than five minutes with NO additional damage." However, every time he'd try the method he swore would work, the vehicle would come dangerously close to rolling off of the wire on to it's roof. Needless to say my crew, myself, and the California Highway Patrol officers on scene were very pessimistic about a favorable outcome to the car.

Two hours later....

They used one tow truck to cable off and keep the vehicle from rolling, while a second tow truck pulled it back down the wire the same way it travelled up. Ended up being simpler than what the original tow driver wanted to do, but with a little additional damage to the car.

Cheers!

Dola,

The CHP officers on scene did state that the vechile was parked within 18 inches of the curb and nothing in the California Vehicle Code had any prohibitions about parking like that. :D

*shrug*

Cheers!

I'll remember that next time I'm in California... I can park on a wire as long as it's within 18 inches of the curb.

I prefer to see Mustangs parked upside down, perhaps in flames. I don't like them.

The story is pretty funny though, nice pics.

This is what happens when you cast perfectly good horsepower before swine.
