Post your top 4 songs that lower your blood pressure and put you in a mellow mood.

Here are mine:

1. Sweet Jane - Cowboy Junkies
2. Don't Give Up - Peter Gabriel w/Kate Bush
3. City of New Orleans - Arlo Guthrie
4. I Want You - Elvis Costello

Quoted for truth. Even Lou Reed admitted this.

Not the top 4, but the first ones that came to mind (probably because I've heard them all in the last couple of days)

Silent Lucidity - Queensryche
If I Had $1,000,000 - Barenaked Ladies
Banana Pancakes - Jack Johnson
pretty much anything by Enya

Hmm. I Feel Love by Donna Summer might make the "relaxing" part for me (in iTunes I have that, Love to Love you Baby, and I Love You Always Forever by Donna Lewis all in a row...my calming down sequence). I'd have to think about the other three. Enya would definitely get consideration - love Lazy Days. Possibly Don't Follow by Alice in Chains. Sitting on The Dock of The Bay by Otis Redding.

Floyd too.

Dola - I've been watching a couple of Bill Withers performances on YouTube lately that might qualify too.

Right back at ya with Solsbury Hill. I wish I'd thought of that one - if I had I probably would've dumped Mangione.

And now that I'm second guessing myself, I might as well admit that I completely missed the boat on one of the most relaxing artists of my lifetime - James Taylor. He alone probably has four songs that would make this Mt. Rushmore respectable (e.g., Fire and Rain, Carolina on My Mind, Sweet Baby James, Something In The Way She Moves).

Much as I love the Police, "King of Pain" is anything but mellow. Anything where there is a change in tempo kills anything mellow about a song. But that's just me, I'm sure. A mellow song has to be slow and easy...barely uptempo and anything mellow just shouldn't have dark lyrics..."Low Rider" would be a good example, just didn't make my list.
