Okay so at this point we have been using the new version for almost three months now? Is there any interest in F0F2004 any longer or is the FOF2007 version just that much better?

Yes. It is that much better. I wouldn't consider for a minute going back to FOF2004. For multiplayer, Solevision by itself is worth the price of the new game and then some. Add to that additional stats tracking, better player usage, better gameplanning options, and lots of other little things, there's really no comparison of the MP experience. The other important thing to note is that league conversions have gone very smoothly, especially when compared to the other major text sim that has tried to convert leagues in the past, which is OOTP.

I agree, FOF 2007 is far superior. The only thing that doesn't do it for me is how defensive schemes relate to play calling.

For example 3 deep zone, aggressive run defense versus 2 deep bump and run normal pass defense. We are kind of left in the dark as to how these will actually play out. I mean, which of the 2 is better against the pass, or run? I have formed my own opinions, but for the newb its a tough one.

What if someone offered you a billion dollars to go back to FOF 2004? You would consider it, and you're lying if you say that isn't true.

Well then I would think that there would be a lot of interest in the 2007 version with lots of people looking for leagues? Is it just the time of the year as I just don't see these boards as active as i always remember them being.

There's a few leagues that are looking for GM's and are not seeing any interest in either version at this point? I'm clearly dumbfounded by this??

With FOF2007 coming out, many new leagues were created from scratch. And since overall, the number of MP players hasn't really changed that much, older leagues are now struggling to find replacements when they lose owners.

On the front page I count a total of 19 MP leagues with 15 of them being “old” leagues. The fifteen established leagues alone need 480 GMs to fill up. I will guess that the average FOF player is in two MP leagues so we are looking at around 240 active players today. The new leagues therefore have to either get some of the already established owners to join a brand new league or catch the attention of brand new players.

I don’t agree with FFF that the old leagues struggle to find new owners. I think many people will much rather join an established league they know will run smoothly instead of gambling on a new league with all the trouble that can cause (Super League).

Operation Sports Football League and vNFL looks to have done a great job and have attracted a lot of the “new” players and players that wanted to start from scratch. New leagues starting now will have to do a lot of work (more then just positing here) to get started.

That, in a word, would be cool.

Well, more than one word.

But still cool.

Alright then, the IFL with Joe heading this league, was one of the best and most sought after leagues in the FOF2004 community and always had a waiting list to be able to get in the door. The IFL then had a month or so where Joe stepped down and it's future was uncertain and as a result I took over as the commish to get it back on track.

I also resurrected the NFL Front Office and it is now a good league as well, I'd like nothing more then to see the IFL rise from the state that it is in currently and to get back where it used to be. To be able to do this it will need a league of active GM's which seem to be scarce these days?

I think these are fair observations. There's a limited MP community and unless new players come in, and 2007 brought some in, then there can only be a finite number of leagues.

While your point is valid, there are still currently 3 well-established leagues looking to fill several vacancies right now in this very forum (HFL, IFL, PFL).

And without too much success, according to what Timster's saying.

We need the NFL to pay us all to play in more MP leagues. We'd be promoting football's presence on the Interynet for them so the least they could do is pay us for our troubles.

HFL had a (not euphemistically named) waiting list as well one time. I remember being excited when a team went and I was top of the list. Clearly there is less interest in MP leagues now. I agree that we've reached saturation point and leagues really have to start offering extra fluff to get people on board. Which, in turn, means that other leagues will miss out and have to increase their fluff production in order to compete. Until all leagues in existence will have to all the player-card stuff and stats and whatnot that VPI's ones do. Hurrah!
