View Full Version : Questions about LCB/RCB and FL/SE... and LDE/RDE

I'm a bit confused on how this all works on FOF.

From the Formation Personnel screens, I see that the strong side of the offense in FOF is the left side. That's where the TE and the FL line up. However, I always assumed the LCB lined up on the FL, but doesn't the LCB normally line up on the defense's left? That would put him on the SE... but the top WRs in FOF are Flankers, and the top CBs are LCBs. So... does this mean that LCB & LDE are from the offense's perspective, rather than the defense's?

I always thought the LCB lined up against the top receiver in man coverage and on the left side of the defensive formation in zone.

First, the left side is not the strong side. Look at any game log. Sometimes left is strong, sometimes right is strong. Second, the top receivers aren't always flankers and the best cornerbacks are not always on the left. Sometimes they are, sometimes they are not. Third, refer to the help file:

If you choose to orient the cornerbacks left and right, then they stay on the left or right side regardless of which sides the flanker and split ends choose. If you choose to orient the cornerbacks based on their abilities, then your top cornerback will always cover the opposing team's best wide receiver.

You make this choice on the game plan pass coverage screens.

3 excellent points, which I already knew.

Perhaps I should have been more specific, is LCB from the defense's or the offense's point of view?

In my league, I struggled a lot a few weeks ago with a team who has an excellent SE. I tried to set my top CB to cover him, via "Covering based on top/secondary WR", and had it set to double cover the top WR often. However, he was almost NEVER double covered, and got the "thrown away from double coverage" on almost one of his 8 catches for 180 yards and 2 TDs.

I don't know why he wasn't getting double covered, when I had it set to double cover the top WR (clearly the 80 SE and not the 56 FL), but he never got double covered.

I'm just looking for a little more help. In FOF, the LCBs are GENERALLY the better of the 2 CBS, and the Flankers are GENERALLY the better WRs, so it would make sense to line them up against each other. My main question is if LCB and LDE are according to the offense or the defense's point of view.

The LCB is from the defenses point of view. An easy was to look at it is this. In the NFL, your LT on offense covers the RDE. So the RDE is on the right side from the defenses point of view but on the left side on the offenses point of view. So, the same goes for CB. The LCB is on the left side from the defensive point of view but on the right side on the offensive point of view.

In the Team Stats screen though, when looking at Run Defense, the "left" and "right" are from the offensive point of view, so this made me wonder.

Basically, I'm pretty upset I couldn't line my top CB against the opposing team's top WR, the SE, and double cover him... it didn't seem to work.

I can't help you with the gameplan. I let the AI control that. I run everything else, including the depth charts.

I wonder if the AI automatically considers flanker = best receiver, and split end = 2nd best receiver.

just a wag

Actually, if 2K7 is like 2K4, you would be surprised what the game considers to be an offense's top WR when you choose that coverage option. Its based on stats, not ratings at all.

Umm just learned something, i thought it was about ratings, how can you know?

Again, this was for 2K4, but see this thread:

The first poster talks about his research of threads that came up with this. I had done the same. However, I could not find those other threads which discussed it in a little more detail. But, the basic idea was that the top WR had the most pass attempts thrown to him.
