My laptop won't pick up the wireless signal from my router. It works fine if I wire the laptop, so it's not a problem with the internet and the wireless signal is picked up fine on my other laptop. I have Verizon DSL, and after talking with them and HP on the phone all night pretty much, I got nowhere.
Verizon told me to call HP and HP had me on the phone forever only to tell me they didn't think my router/modem wasn't compatible with Vista.
The router is a Westell Versalink, which is a DSL modem and router in one. Will I have any problems if I use the Versalink as a modem only and go out and buy a Linksys to use as a router?

When my sister's laptop stopped picking up the wireless signal, it turned out she uninstalled the network driver somehow by mistake... is it maybe something weird like this?

I don't think it's that, the laptop is less than a day old. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the network card drivers.
It shows the networks I can connect to, just won't let me connect to any of them. If I diagnose it tells me it didn't receive a response from the router or access point.

If you can see the networks that's half the battle. Have you confirmed your IP/DHCP settings are correct? If your new machine is trying to use a duplicate ip address or isn't in the address range of the router it could cause something like this.

Ok, I thought I had replied to this but I guess not.
I'm assuming your router has wireless built into it. Have you logged into your router from the PC that direct connects? If you have, is your router set with WEP (Wireless Encryption Protocol)? Have you tried disabling the WEP and all security options on the router and getting the computer connected?
Can you get your computer to connect to any other wireless routers?

I ended up buying the Linksys router, works fine now.
