I am new to FOF. I have 2007 and I'm in my first offseason in a multiplayer league. It is the free agency period. I have a few players whose contracts are up and I made them a new offer. However, for some free agents, the "Offer Contract" button is grayed out and can't be accessed. This is the case for some of guys that were on my team last season and some of the free agents that weren't. Do they just not want to sign with me team? Is it too early in free agency or maybe our league settings? I would think I would at least be able to make an offer to these players.

Thanks

During week one in the FA period, you can only offer contracts to players currently under contract - or for players deemed "restricted free agents" that were on your roster when the season ended. (only players with less than 5 years experience qualify as RFAs)

If it's the first stage of free agency, you're only allowed to do renegotiations with players on your own team. If you advance to the second stage you should be able to make offers to any player that is out of contract and eligible for free agency. Hope that's helpful.

Thanks, we were afraid to advance because we didn't want to have the guys stolen away by another team. But you are right, they all have over 5 years experience. That makes sense.

Follow up question: This is the only period where you can franchise a player, right? Why should I waste my franchise tag on a player before I've had the opportunity to negotiate with him? He may agree to a favorable deal and I might be able to slap the tag on someone else.

Nope, the tagging goes before FA begins.
