Two quick, cheap cards. The second was a makeup card.

Rico looks out of his depth in this game. 1 touch behind.

DaddyTorgo
02-07-2007, 09:05 PM
seriously. i love the insight of arena at this point. i'm sure his insight will become less useful as time goes on, but right now he's still so familiar with the players/system/set pieces that it's a joy

Easy Mac

Players looking OK
Donovan
Bornstein
Dempsey
Conrad
Boca

Players who are playing
Mastro
Howard
Albright

Players Looking Poor
Rico
Rolfe
Convey

I'm not sure what Convey is doing out there. He looks hung over. As soon as Rolfe got the ball on the run, he started looking around and never stopped. He needs to just go forward and play by instinct, not think. Ricardo just looks 1 step out of sync.

I like Bornstein getting down the wing, he's covering Convey. Donovan had a good run. Dempsey has looked occasionally somewhat dangerous, but it seems the team is content to slide it down the left side of the field, when we actually move it forward.

Chris I cant believe you are watching this and not Duke/UNC

What Izzy said. Strangely, my girl is up in Greenville watching the Duke game, and she doesn't even care (of course, its an office watching party of like all UNC grads, so she better be representing).

Also, I hate watching Duke, if only because I get pissed off they seem to sleepwalk through 90% of the game.

Defense getting sloppy though. Arena was right... need to keep the shape in the back and the 2nd goal will come. Don't push for the 2nd goal when you are only up by 1!

Just got home. What formation did we start out with today?
We played a 4-4-2 the whole way, with basically a flat midfield where Convey and Dempsey played mostly on the touch lines and Mastroeni and Clark were dual holding midfielders. Players sometimes got shuffled around, but the formation never changed.

My guess is that the Mexico faithful are seething about their inability to beat the U.S. anymore. I'm talking national shame type of seething.

"They were a little opportunistic and stayed in their own end for the majority of the match, but they did beat us," Marquez said. "Considering the tactics that they utilized, I think that is the credit I would give them considering the fact that on the field, they were not superior to us.

Nice to see a Temple City grad doing something. (Conrad) Desmond Reed's career is over thanks to Notre Dame and I was hoping Rocky Biddle wasn't the lone Temple City rep in the pro sports world.

If that's US v. Denmark in Arizona, crowd is probably about 1/3 of what it was last night. The atmosphere was created by the fact that it was Mexico.

Sadly, we cannot play Mexico every time. If we could, not only would we fill every stadium we play in, but we'd also be 200-0-3 with 10 World Cups.

I went to the game with some friends and it was a blast. Great atmosphere, good cross section of fans (even though it was 70-30 Mexico) and a lot of fun. I was 5 rows off the field and Dempsey looked almost ill. He was barely able to run when he was taken off - I wonder if he had the flu or something. IMO, the best player on the field was Bornstein. He was holding the Mexican attackers on his side in check and started numerous offensive runs.

No, the US can beat them in Korea, just not in Mexico. Luckily, the US team can afford to drop a game at a 2 mile altitude every so often.

I was referring to the atmosphere. It sounded electric on TV. I bet it was a blast to be there. Also, the quality of play and the up and down chances. I was on the edge of my seat for just a friendly.

But I did question what team Chris Albright and Eddie Johnson were playing for. Thye both had critical give-a-ways. EJ is looking more and more like a major flop.

Johnson has been pretty brittle and a bit temperamental of late. Albright needs to be shot.

No, they get it. And they hate it.

That goalie who tried to injure the US Player after the goal? (this is translated from a Mexican paper)

Oswaldo Sanchez reflected what was Mexico last night at the University of Phoenix stadium. The Santos Laguna goalkeeper left the locker room angry and could not hide it. The helplessness overcame him. Faithful to his ways, he was not careful with his mouth when it came to discussing the loss against the United States.

When he found out minutes earlier that a few of the U.S. players criticized him for trying to injure Johnson after the second goal via Landon Donovan from the Stars and Stripes team, Sanchez was sharp-worded with his reply, “I don’t give a s*** what they say. F*** their mothers.”

The 'keeper accepted that there is no defeat that hurts more than the one against the United States, the most hated rival and one that has built a clear supremacy over our "Greens" in the past few years.

"I get very angry when I lose, but it's even worse when it's against this team. I don't care how, but we had to win this game. We couldn't and that leaves one feeling very helpless."

Im amazingly pissed at myself for having no idea this game was on the other night, and I couldn't find any replays on after realizing i'd missed the game... I hope I can find a torrent of it or something, I'd really like to see it.

If anyone has any ideas on that front or knows if there is a replay coming at 3AM on ESPN Classic or something , please let me know.

EJ looks like a head case. He's got some physical gifts, although he also has some notable limitations that his boosters tend to play down, but I really think he has enough ability to be a really dangerous forward if he can just get his head together.

I learned long ago, as long as a forward is faster than every defender, he presents the chance to create a goal at any time. Hopefully he gets the rest of his game together, because that is a dimension the US needs to win against the powerhouses.
