I think it is a dumb "holiday" I don't need an excuse to tell my fiance I love her etc... How do you feel?

*shrug*

Doesn't mean much to me personally but it's good to have a reason to spend some time together. We both lead pretty busy lives.

It's a wonderful holiday... in Japan, where they do it backward.

We are just going to hang out together on valentines day, and then go out for dinner the night after.

yeah, but didnt they create another holiday (im now visualizing "Love Day" from the Simpsons), that is the reverse (and therefore, like our Valentines Day?)

Yeah, we celebreate. It's a good reminder that I shouldn't always be a frugal SOB and should splurge on my wife now and then...

Yeah we celebrate. It makes my wife very happy when we do something special together on Valentines, and that makes me happy.

Yes, we celebrate, but no, we don't spend what I read is the average amount American adults spend on V-Day-associated gifts, cards, dinners, etc., which is $212. We've agreed to not buy major gifts or anything like that, so flowers, a card, a DVD, and dinner out with the kids is probably going to be all I do. Until later that night, anyway.

I love my wife, but getting her flowers that die sends the wrong message; so does getting her candy that makes her fat.

You really didn't have to go into any detail... I think we're all assuming that.

It's a good day to take time just to hang out or go out to do something.

One thing we do not do is I don't get her flowers of any type on Valentine's Day. They're ridiculously overpriced. I worked out a deal with her that I'll get her roses several times throughout the year (when they're only $10 for 18 roses) instead of blowing a big wad of money on flowers on Valentine's Day. She agreed. Works out well.

That's pretty much the same here. I get some flowers (not a $50 thing of roses either), maybe some chocolates, and a dinner out - maybe at a slightly nicer place than we usually go to.

That's it. I think the Holiday is a bit made up, and the people that go crazy for it should maybe re-evaluate. But taking it as a chance once a year to treat yourselves as a couple, I don't see anything wrong with that.

To add to this... we like to think we're ok gardeners, so often I get more pottet flowers that she can replant which tend to not be as overpriced at Valentines day.

There was no detail provided. And since this is our 10th year of marriage, I don't think you can assume anything more than flowers and a card was going to happen. :D

Yes, but the wife and I usually go out to dinner on another night. Its impossible to get reservations on the actual day. Its not too big of a deal for us, its just an excuse to either make a nice dinner for 2 at home or go out for a really good dinner. L'Auberge in McLean, VA this year.

Yeah, we do that a lot too.. particularly when Valentine's Day comes on a weekday, we'll push it to a Friday or Saturday night.

White Day. But you only have to reciprocate the chocolate that you've been given that year.

No flowers or any of that BS.

I am not a fan of it that much, but the wife likes it so I try my best to make the most of it :)

Do you -have- to reciprocate the chocolate? Cuz in Seasons of Sakura and True Love, I think you only have to pick one girl to reciprocate to.

I'd almost think that would make it better, then you focus more on the anniversary part rather than the greeting-card holiday.

Pretty much, you have to give back chocolate to everyone. We call it giri-choco, or obligation chocolate.

And I'd counsel against belief in any cultural knowledge that you pick up in ecchi bishoujo games.

We did in the past until 6 years ago when our first daughter was born. 2:26 that afternoon, the day belongs to her now
