Well, "play."

Kyle Boller is the backup QB for Baltimore.

Jerry Owens (Boller's favorite TD target in high school) made the switch to baseball after breaking his leg playing football and, last I checked, was on the 25-man roster for the Chicago White Sox.

And Jamie...I'm sorry, James Shields is a rotation candidate for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

I'm a little surprised there's that many.

Did Boller ever throw you a 50 yard TD strike from his knees when you guys played flag football in gym class?

I played flag football with a pretty good QB in junior high, but it wasn't Boller.

By the time I hit high school, he wasn't taking regular gym - football, remember.

But as hyperbolic as the whole '50 yards from his knees' bit sounds, he always had an incredible arm. He threw one ball something like 65 yards in the air in a game my senior year of high school. I think it was a playoff game, but I can't remember the opponent.

I don't think anyone in my class is a pro athlete. But when I was in high school I did play basketball against Kobe Bryant and Rip Hamilton (ok, I didn't play them, I sat the bench that year), John Salmons (was with the Sixers don't know where now), and Matt Carroll (Charlotte).

EDIT: And maybe Jameer Nelson when I was younger before high school, Chester always had good teams so I forget who was on it.

The White Sox traded Owens to the Dbacks. There is a chance he could start for them in CF this year.

I went to high school about a year or two ahead of Peerless Price. We have the same last name, in fact.

As I said in some other thread today, I was 2 years behind Dan Klecko, the DT-turned-occasional-FB that has SB rings from the Pats and the Colts, at Marlboro High School. I never knew him, but I did avoid him in the halls from time to time. Guy was a friggin monster.

His actual last name is 69?

I went to high school with a guy who was drafted by the Mets in the 12th round, then went to college at Arkansas and was drafted by the Dodgers in the 5th. He was a crafty lefthander with some nice breaking pitches. Probably would have made it to the majors if he hadn't hurt his arm pitching for Team USA his last year in college.

His arm was repaired by Frank Jobe, and the Dodgers said the surgery was a success and they expected him to resum hitting the mid-90s on his fastball following recovery. One of our coaches said that would be the most successful surgery ever because he'd never hit the mid-90s before the surgery. :)

I went to high school with two NFL players, Junior Seau and Pulu Poumele.

I knew Junior from track because he was a great shot put and discus thrower. Plus the bastard stole my spot on the 400 relay because he wanted to get a sprinting medal because it was his senior year. The coach lied to me when the event was supposed to start and I sat in the stands furious as he sprinted down the track in my spot. It felt somewhat good that they only managed to get the bronze medal.

I had known Pulu (now a former NFL player) since he was in the 5th grade because he was in the same class as my brother.

Charles Dimry and Joe Salavea are relatives of people I went to high school with. Charles' sister Michelle Dimry was a good track and field athlete and was so.....fine. And Joe's older brother Oakland (who was one silent mean SOB) was best friends with Junior Seau.

I was surprised that Oakland never made pro ball because he was actually stronger than Seau, but I guess it was because he was a C average student and wasn't as versatile.

I went to junior high with Ryan Howard and his twin brother outside of St. Louis. Even went to their house a couple of times. I remember him having a very nice family. I played a lot of baseball back then, but I don't remember if I ever played against him.

Hmm... He did sign my year book before I moved, I wonder if it might be worth something someday.

I didn't go to school with him but I was friends with Darian Barnes, now a FB with the Miami Dolphins. He was a few years younger than most of us, but always played street ball with us because he was so fast. He used to spend a lot of time at my cousin's house along with a few of our other friends.

I played baseball with two guys who were drafted, one by the Tigers and one by the Phillies. Neither one made it out of A ball, which given how much pot they smoked in high school isn't all that surprising.

Raion Hill was in my high school graduating class. He was a special teamer for the Bills a few years ago. Yes, that's right, THE Raion Hill.
