M GO BLUE!!!

Who would have ever thought that 34 years into this life, my body would be such a mess...

I have bad knees (doc said genetically weak ACL's, but at least the condition kept the right one from tearing when I hurt it in football)

A bad back (compression fracture in L2)

A bad right wrist that commonly informs me what it can take (broke that too, got a plate & 6 screws in it)

Now, over the last few months my left shoulder has got progressively worse. The thing that kills me is I never hurt it. One day it suddenly just felt uncomfortable. Now it hurts to lift the arm above the shoulder or to even sleep on the left side. I'd go to a doc, but I'm the type that just waits to see if it will get better since I don't want to be a whiny little girl about things... Hell, when I broke the back & wrist I had to be talked into going to the hospital! (I figured that it wasn't as bad as it felt, but when a couple guys tried helping me up it felt like my right hand wasn't attached to the arm by anything but the skin... that was actually pretty close to the truth!)

I can't be alone... So what ails you guys?

I had a Daunte Culpepper in my right knee. That hurts more days than not. Also, my other knee has had sprained MCL, and I've broken both ankles, so it's actually almost impossible for me to run.

My upper body is mostly ok. I've had some dings over the years, but nothing that still bothers me.

My most limiting ailment is my left knee. I ruptured my patella tendon in December 2003 and it's still not right. I have nerve damage that make it very awkward and slightly painful to kneel on that knee, and it's still not anywhere as strong as it used to be. It actually feels better than my right knee, which has a subluxation where the tendon has pulled the kneecap out of place. My research suggests that people who rupture a patella tendon are less likely to re-rupture the same tendon but are much more likely to rupture the other one. I keep intending to see an orthopedist about taking some preventive measures on my right knee.

I suffered a stress fracture in my left foot about 10 years ago and it still hampers me, especially while running or jumping. I have played almost no basketball since then because every time I've played I have ended up landing on that foot and feeling a very familiar twinge that isn't good.

I'm pretty sure I have onset carpal tunnel as well. Last year I had a few months where if I held my elbow at the right angle or put any weight on it I would lose most of the feeling in my hand and forearm. That went away and the neurologist thought I was pulling a Costanza, but it still flairs up from time to time.

All that and I'm a fat, slobbering pig. I'm 35 and realize I'm well over the hill.

For those of you with aches and pains, arthritis, bursitis (I have it in my shoulder), I have a somewhat unorthodox solution.

Unrefined, virgin, coconut oil. I use it to fry eggs, my wife eats it out of the jar. Just a tablespoon or so a day. My wife has arthritis in her knee. She is off her prescription medication and I have full mobility in my shoulder.

Precription medication has too many side effects.

Anyway, just thought I'd try to help.

My parents and brother use it along with a lot of friends of mine. What it does is lubricate the joints to give you mobility to let your body heal itself. All prescriptions do is mask the pain.

I was born with "loose" ligaments. I have sprained my ankles so many times that I have twice the normal deflection plus a dime size bone chip in the right one. Both knees have been hyperextended more times that I can count. During home coming week football practice took a cheap shot and blew out the right knee, MCL-LCL reconstruction with 100% cartilage removal. Had 60% of cartilage removed from left knee in summer of '85. Broke left wrist in a motorcylce accident in winter of '87 and it has never been right since. Right knee reconstruction again in spring of '88, ACL-PCL reconstruction plus tightening everything else up again plus addressing bone spurs. Even have a stainless steel staple in my femur to help hold things together. I was told at that time I had degenerative arthritis and had already lost 10-15% of my knee joint. Bone spurs so ugly on the knee cap they look like tumors. I can't crawl and can only kneel for a very short period of time. Ruptured right achilles tendon from calf in fall of 93. Partial tear of left achilles tendon summer of 2000. Bursitits in right shoulder, dislocated left shoulder, tendonitis in right elbow. Broken fingers don't count. So at 46 I can say that I sure loved sports but they didn't love me. It's obvious to me that my body wasn't as strong as my heart and desire to play. Definately won't allow my kids that have athletic asperations make the same mistakes I did.

Just this last week, the left side of my hip, somewhere at or close to where my femur meets my hip, started hurting. Most of the time it's a dull ache, but if I bend the wrong way it's a very sharp pain. Came pretty much out of nowhere; not sure if it's an arthritic condition manifesting itself rather early, or it it's not actually a bone issue but a muscle or a ligament tear. If it doesn't start getting better soon, I'm going to have to get it looked at.

Oh, and I'm 37 and otherwise in pretty good shape.

I've broken my left ankle three times. I have bone chips in that ankle that should probably get taken out. I have to wear a brace on my ankle to prevent it from flipping half the time. :)

I have a bad neck from my football days, and from time to time I get horrible headaches if I can't crack my neck (when I do so, the headaches go away immediately). Went to a doc, who told me they could do surgery to fix the issue, but the surgery would cause early onset arthritis. He told me if I continued to crack my neck I would get arthritis. So I'd rather get it later than earlier.

Someone told me that cracking my neck can cause a stroke, but my doc said that wouldn't happen.

I have kidney troubles, but that's not a pain as much a biproduct of too much Mountain Dew.

Oh, and my left knee hurts when it rains. Other than that, I'm fine. :)

I have 3 herniated disks in my back. It happened over a year ago. I couldn't walk for a month and had a cortizone shot and therapy for it. I am still often bothered by it and will be for the rest of my life.

I am 31

27 years old and I have a pinched nerve in my back that necessitates occasional visits to the chiropractor and acupuncturist when my back and neck hurt too bad. Knee cracks every once in a great while but that's just if I've been in one position for too long.

Hiatal hernia and acid reflux which translate into me not being able to eat a lof of the things I used to without paying for it.

Other than that and weighing more than I'd like to, I'm not in that horrid a shape. Never broken anything because I drink milk like it's going out of style.

I've worked out 3-4 times per week the last few years. Once I got my body fat below 10%, I've been dealing with regular pain in myriad areas of my body. At one time or another, my lower back, front delts, rotator cuffs, elbows, wrists, knees, and neck have hurt me. I'm not sure what the problem is, but it began only when I lost my weight.

Right now, my lower back (which I tweaked on the elliptical) is killing me. I hate life sometimes.

'92 tore ACL, and both MCL in left knee.
'94 Again tore ACL in left knee
'95 tore PCL in right knew
'97 tore ACL MCL (x2) and chipped a bone in right knee (this one ends the football career and no more knee injuries)

'99 broke right fibia in 3 places, rod and botl inserted (this tends to expand and contract in extreme temperatures hurts like a SOB)

Over the years have broken every bone in my right hand at least once.

For the most part it all hurts every day.
Im pretty much a couch potato out of necessity, running kills me, though I keep doing it

37 and many of my problems seem to possibly stem from Marfans Syndrome.

I have developed chronic back problems and have a herniatec disc (both are potentially said to be affected by Marfans, depending on which doctor as it seems like no two doctors know the same thing about it) that is maintained through stretching excersizes. It affects my siatic nerve when it flares up and that can shut me down for up to a week (can;t do anything for more than a few minutes without the pain starting, sitting, laying, standing, walking, etc...).

My right knee had something happen to it back when I was in school. While running I felt something not quite pop but felt like some kind of movement. It no longer felt like I could straighten out my knee and it felt very weak. I stumbled but took another stride which somehow led me to a "solution". If the leg kicked back up high enough I felt a shift that made things back to normal. Since that day there has been several times when I have encountered the same problem and kicking my heel back up as high as possible (from the knee) has always made the "adjustment" to where it feels normal again. My avoidance of doctors (my mom had this way of making you feel like you were in trouble if you were sick or injured so I kept a lot to myself) kept me from getting that checked out when it happened.

My left knee had a torn maniscus (sp?) when playing indoor soccer after I turned 30. Was on crutches for a little while and had a brace but that was about the extent of it.

Sprained both of my wrists at the same time in my early 20's. While playing softball I had just scored a run and was turning to see what was happening with the rest of the play that was going on and didn't notice the batter left the bat right next to the plate. Hit the bat while trying to stop to look back, my legs flew out and like and idiot I put my arms back to catch myself. My gym teacher was right, never do that!!! They both now seem more capable of injury than before the sprain.

The Marfans causes weakened connective tissue but the doctor says that cane sometimes make it more flexible and believes that may have kept my right knee from tearing when I get those incidents with it but who really knows at this time.

I can't remember the term for it but the Marfans is said to also potentially be the cause. The area in the center of my chest can become slightly inflamed and causes what almost feels like each side of my rib cage shifting on movement which causes blinding pain. Luckily that seems to only last for short moments and hasn't occured in a while (it actually seemed to happen more when I was rail thin than it has over the last 7 years or so). Again, I never really said anything to the doctor about this while growing up until relatively recently.

Might as well add the migraines into the mix as well...

Wow, I'm a freaking wreck, or a wreck of a freak (I guess it depends on your PoV). Maybe I needed to be put down. ;)
