At what point in the season do players retire? Do you get an email tifying you of the fact?
I had Lorenzo Neal disappear of my roster randomly in the off-season. I assume he retired and I just missed the email, but I want to be sure.

They retire immediately after the start of the new season. If you look in the transaction log immediately after the start of the offseason it will list all the retirees.
Don't know if you get an e mail telling you they've retired. I suspect not but I hardly ever check the e mails.

You don't get an e-mail telling you which players have retired (although this would probably be a useful addition), so you need to check the transaction log immediately after you start the new season to find out who's decided to call it a day.

Don't quote me on this, but I think some players might retire after the 2nd stage of FA. I seem to remember one of my old players retiring like that and not showing up on the transaction log, but I'm not quite sure.

Interesting....like as in a guy who was bringing it back for one more shot, but didn't make a roster?

Never seen that so I won't quote you on it. Not that it is too important but the Transaction log never shows all the retirees, only the players on teams. Its nice to track a players entire career. As of now you have to do an export on the FA pool at the end of the season, and then compare it to the FA Pool at the beginning of the Coach hiring stages to see what players actually retired.
These players aren't too important, but let say there was a 1st round draft pick who became a bust. After 3 years in the season as a backup, he drifted into nothingness and eventually sat on the FA wire for 2 seasons and ended up retiring. GM's who always look back and say, "what ever happened to Gino Torretta?", there is actually a history of when he retired rather than just the last transaction of when he was released last.

Going into career stats might also show you when he retired too maybe. I know in career stats it always shows when his last season was. However, I am not sure if it shows it for a season in which the guy never played. E.g. if the guy played from 2006-2012, then retired in 2014 after sitting out a season, I am not sure if career stats will show 2012 or 2013 as the last season, but maybe it does.
