Boxing: "Irish" Micky Wards Story to the Big Screen

Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg are set to star in The Fighter. The two will play brothers. Shooting could start as early as summer, pending a script rewrite.

The story follows "boxer 'Irish' Micky Ward's unlikely road to the world lightweight title. His Rocky-like rise was shepherded by half-brother Dicky, a boxer-turned-trainer who rebounded in life after nearly being KO'd by drugs and crime.

Like the Ward brothers, Wahlberg and Damon are both Massachusetts natives, and they have met several times about The Fighter.
