Y'know, I don't mind remakes generally speaking, but there's a few movies, especially horror films, that NEVER need to be remade. One is Halloween.

Rob Zombie is retconning Halloween.

Wow. I'm sure I'm not the only movie buff out there ... are there any films that you think should never, under any circumstances, be remade?

... I mean, pick Zack Snider to do the remake. Have John Carpenter do it ... hell, there's a ton of great young directors. Not Rob Zombie.

I thought he wasn't remaking Halloween, he was doing a "prequal" to Halloween, similar to the Texas Chaninsaw Massacre movie that came out recently.

Nope. The film revolves around him getting accidentally released from the asylum and returning back to Haddenfield, just like the original.

EDIT: Evidently, he's intending on making Michael Myers a more sympathetic character, as he comes back to PROTECT his sister (played by Scout Taylor-Compton, the teen who went missing last year) instead of kill her.

for someone that considers themself such a film buff i have a hard time understanding why you dont think rob zombie isnt qualified to do a halloween project.

whats snyder done? went from dawn of the dead into a non-horror movie in 300 afaik.

I mentioned Snider because he did a decent remake. Dawn of the Dead was a pretty good movie, in my opinion.

The two films I've seen from Zombie were both horror films, and both were incredibly sub-par. House of 1000 Corpses was his version of TCM and it was one of the worst horror films I've seen in a long time.

In essence, Rob Zombie is a poor filmmaker, and needs to stay as far away from Halloween as possible. There are MUCH better directors out there, that if you MUST do a remake of it (which you really don't), they would be a much better homage to the original than Zombie will. Eli Roth comes to mine as well.

I thought The Devil's Rejects was a really good movie.
