Is anyone out there playing anything along these lines? I am dying to get some wargaming in, and hate just going into chatrooms trying to find a game.

Any one playing any games on VASSAL?

Any one still playing Battle of Wesnoth?

Any one playing looking for opponents of anything?

I've fooled around with VASSAL, but haven't actually played a game yet. My dad and I are trying to find time to play either Afrika Korps or a scenario from ASL Starter Kit 1. My main problem is that I moved this summer and all my games are still boxed up.

Do you have a list of games you are dying to play?

WH, let's just dive in to a Combat Mission battle. Which game(s) do you have?

Not heard of this one - please tell me more ..

Any one still playing Battle of Wesnoth?
Yeah of course :D

My particular love on wesnoth at the moment (it changes now and again) are the survival games - the new 'top down' one is quite challenging and fun to play.

(I'm normally using either 'vet' or 'veteran' as my tag ... no particular reason apart from to warn 'leet doodz' that I'm an old git so don't bother playing me ;) )

I'm always up for learning new war-games ...

VASSAL is a freeware front end for a variety of old boardgames to be played via the internet. The most famous version of VASSAL is VASL which is Virtual Advanced Squad Leader, and the big game for which VASSAL was developed. However, there are many modules available for use with vassal.

Check out this link for more info on games:

The only "issue" with VASSAL is that there are no instructions with the modules, so you need to know how to play the game to enforce the rules properly.

If you've got Cyberbox or Aide de Camp, VASSAL is basically the same thing (digitized versions of boardgames). The big difference is the live play aspect whereas the others are PBEM arrangements.

I've never actually done anything with VASSAL (mainly owing to time constraints in my life), but it does seem to be a very popular way to play. Hadn't realized there were so many modules now.
