My three year old is already a spider-man afficionado. Well, given how many spider-man related toys and tapes and DVDs his older brother has, it was bound to happen.

Yesterday night, he saw the VHS tape of the first Spider-Man movie. Don't know why a tape would be lying around, but he absolutely wanted to watch it. He'd watched mostly cartoon spider-man before, but he wanted to watch this one yesterday evening.

I set him up and went to help his brother get his homework done and when I got back, the question fest started. Here's a small sample that I can remember...

Why is Spider-Man good?

Why did Spider-Man have a ugly costume before?

Why is the the man with long hair (Macho Man savage) angry and why does he want to hurt Spider-Man?

Why is Green Goblin bad?

Why is Green Goblin green?

Why is Spider-Man on that truck?

Why does Spider-Man put his fingers like that? (showing the webslinging pose)

Why his the old lady (aunt May) sick?

Why is Peter Parker not wearing his glasses?

Why doesn't Spider-Man like guns?

Why is there a camera in the web?

Why is the man (Jameson) angry?

Why is Peter Parker not wearing his costume now?

Why is there a fire?

Why is the baby in the burning house?

Why is Spider-Man catching bad guys?

why?

why?

Why?

Kids say the cutest things sometimes and I gotta say even though it got old a bit after 30-35 minutes, most of the time he kept asking these questions, I could only watch him with a smile on my face... :)

Just do not tell your kid about the latest "Spiderman" in the future comic book. Spiderman: Reign.

There is a factoid in this alternate-future book that is simultaneously the funniest and most wrong thing I've heard about Spidey ever

What is that?

(digs out his Reign issues).

Oh, and since you seem to have Reign too, is it one of the most blatant Dark Knight Returns copies ... ever?

This reminds me of watching Star Wars when my son was 3.

My 5 year old loves the prequels. Absolutely loves them. I think a lot of it has to do with age. RotJ isn't in the top 3 of the films, that probably goes to Sith. But the prequels aren't the worst trash ever seen on film as some would lead you to believe.

I don't have it, but was following the controversey on several boards..

In the latest issue of Reign it was revealed that in Reign's alt future, Mary Jane Watson/Parker died from cancer, caused by Peter Parker's..er.. radioactive.. (tries to keep a straight face) sperm.

Oh, yeah. Forgot about that. Absolutely true.

The series in general is really screwed up. :-)

Reading the series now, Parker says:

"Oh God, I'm sorry, the doctors didn't understand how it happened! How you had been POISONED with RADIOACTIVITY!! How your body slowly became riddled with CANCER! I did. I was ... I am filled with RADIOACTIVE BLOOD. And not just blood. Every fluid. Touching me ... LOVING ME ... " (Spider-Man: Reign #3)

Capital letters are the bolded stuff from the book. Kinda ... sick now that I reread it. :-)

Our next door neighbor has a 4-year old boy who announced last week that he was changing his name to Peter Parker. He refuses to acknowledge his real name and will only respond if you call him Peter Parker. That must get old quickly.

Trust me, they are.
