In my SP game I watch computer teams trade up in the draft only giving up picks...but when I try they wont even think about it "without adding value to the trade". Frustrating.

The only thing I haven't got figured out yet is how teams value picks in next years' draft?

I have had no such problems. If you want to trade up you really have to give up a lot. It's this same way in real life. Anyways in my recent offseason I traded my 1st(28), 4th, and next year's first. To move up to #12 and take the guy I really wanted.

It prevents over-exploitation of an AI that can't match a human's. Seems fair to me.

You can usually peg it at around the 15-16 pick value of that round, is what I have found. Granted, this is with minimal evidence. This would be an interesting study.

I traded the #3 overall pick to some team one day for a player and a lower round pick or two, and then watched them trade the pick for a #1 2 seasons down the road.

I greatly enjoy arbitraging draft picks. I like to stockpile them and either trade up to get a particular player or trade down if there are several guys I like who I think will be available 4-5 picks later.

Granted - it is harder to trade up.

I always wondered why it didn't just say that.

It also bothers me that you'll propose a trade (let's say, a 4th round pick for a back-up RB), and the AI will come back with "You're extremely close to a good offer, but we need a little more in return." So you add a 6th round pick, or even upgrade the 4th to a 3rd, and you then get back "You've made a fair offer, but it is not enough (along those lines...)." Essentially, you've gotten further away by offering more.

I'm not even going to get into the "The quality of your offer is good, but your opponent is wondering about the effects of losing the player. It's possible a replacement player, or higher draft picks, will close the deal..." which I've taken to mean "Good fucking luck figuring this out."

As stupid as it is in other games, I'd rather see an interest or advantage bar when you offer deals.

I don't think that's stupid, actually. With contracts (like it Madden), yeah, it is. But if you're actually trading for someone, people would say "Yeah, I dunno, I'm kind of interested, but..." and not mess around so much. I hate how every "No" makes it harder to trade for a particular player or pick. I always save before negotiating trades for that reason. Meh.

Trading is generally a chore. It would help if you had a clue how close you really were to getting something done. You can get the "fair offer, but..." message when you're trying to deal a 4th round pick. And then you keep upping your offer, and you find out a 1st won't even get it done. Just give us some honest feedback, even if it's a straight "No" without any bullshit...or, pretty please, COUNTEROFFERS.

I like the trade bars in the original freeware EHM and the trade arrows and feedback in TPB.
