is there a way to find a player by typing in a last/first name?

Short answer: No.

Longer answer: You can probably find that person by alphabetically sorting the rosters and going through them. You can also try looking at Career Statistics, but it sucks the more years you're into your career since it calculates it every time. I wonder if it's possible to do the career statistics the same way that career records are done...update them at the end of the regular season.
