I have found the most interest so far in FOF playing the single player historical files. I love the leagues I am in, but it seems to me after the files are downloaded and I spend my time with the plans and checking injuries and trends, I want more and waiting a few days is tough until the next sim. I started in 1960 and ran through them all to get used to playing the game. It was a blast.
This league will have more sims and less web work.
My plans would be to run a league a little bit differently from what I have seen so far in both of my FOF leagues. By no means is there anything wrong with the way things are done in either league, I just can't see myself spending the time that both commissioners do on the web sites. They are great at doing the pages, I am not. I know nothing but very basics to get things up and running, but was experienced with forums and set them up to run a league like a Madden coach league.
I am thinking of running a sim every night. (EFL - Everyday Football League)
I am in the Eastern Time zone and generally speaking I am home just about every night around the time the 11 o’clock news comes on. I do work in the police department so there may be the occassional emergency, which I will try to post any change of plans on the forums to be fair to everyone. You will find I am a straight shooter, fair about things and only wanting to have a little fun running a small league. If we dont get 20 owners at first I am not going to shut down. If its a few of us I will keep things going as if I am running a solo league so anyone participating will not see their league, time, and efforts fold up and go away. I will not be interested in closing shop anytime soon.
If I can’t make it between 11pm and 12am to sim the week I will be posting on the forums when the next sim will be. One thing that will not happen is early sims. Every owner will have a chance to get the file in with 24 hours notice. The only concern I have about it is if someone misses a few days and the team has injuries what happens during the sim? If anyone running or ran a league knows please fill me in.
I plan to slow down the sims for the playoffs and off season. To me the off season draft and free agency is most fun in the solo game and I want to make that the focal point of this league.. I don’t mind if the league seems like it is a solo league, I am looking to compete against humans instead of the AI.
I have the forums set up and I am just trying to figure out how the stats are posted to the web site and am trying to spruce it up so its interesting to look at, but again the focal point of this league will be taking a minute to download the files and set your team to how you want it. The trials of everyday life have us all busy and I would not expect us to be ready everyday all the time, and I won’t be worrying much about the participation. I am hoping that submitting your team files will be enough to keep us busy during the regular seasons. I am not looking for life and death struggles over our teams, just giving those of us that like the game something to do for a few minutes a day.
I was thinking of choosing 1970 as the point of origin for the league, but some participants want to start in the 60s. I am guessing since the regular seasons will take under three weeks to complete, we can spend the 4th week on the playoffs, then free agency and the draft might take another week.
I don’t know how many would be interested in something like this, or if the idea is just plain stupid and I should have only a few sims a week, but again, in this league I would like to stress the gameplay more than the website action, making it a little different from other leagues that have commissioners doing great work on the sites. Ideas, comments, tomato-throwing are all welcome.
