This application has been around for quite some time, but I did a quick search and didn't see any information about it. I was actually aware of it long before Google bought it, but it was cost prohibitive. Now that Google owns it there is quite a feature-rich free version.
So I finally got to messing with it last night and it is incredibly simple. In addition, it is one of the only applications I've found that can do my rounded front wall. Anyway, one and a half paragraphs in and you may not even know what I'm talking about. SketchUp (http://sketchup.google.com/) is a layout program, and more loosely a 3D modeling program. I threw together a quick layout of my living room last night. It's missing some furniture, but it's a start.

Sweet. I was just thinking about this program yesterday as I'm considering completely changing up the function of two rooms. Had no idea google had purchased it, or that there was a decent free version. I'm on it!

There might be some gold or sweet magic items in those two chests, Wade. You should check them out.

ON the bright side, it might contain a healing potion to restore 4 life points!
ct, what the hell is that strange, curvy bondage-room-looking thing by your, umm, refrigerator-that-has-a-turntable-on-it?
Or, do we even want to know?!?

yeah, you nailed the fridge-tunrtable combo. The room is built around a furnace and an AC unit, so it explains the incredibly bizzare wall... one of those walls is actually removable to access the furnace, even.

This seems to be more to entertain me than anyone else, but here is my whole house with just the kitchen cabinetry, etc. ignored for now (that will be a task in and of itself)

Dola: Hrmm.. I may have to make some of the walls without being translucent so you can really see the colors.

It's pretty easy to pick up. You'll find that by hour 3 you're doing things 10 times faster than you were in hour 1. It's fun to me as well, so it basiclaly just sucks up video game time when i'm playing around with it.

Pretty easy imo. There are some quirks that you have to get used to, but once you get past that it is not bad...
I watched the intro tutorial video they have, and that helped... You draw the lines (which you can type in the exact distance and it will draw the line that distance for you).. then there are built in fills for carpet, hardwood, etc... then there are some built-in objects, but you can also go onto an on-line database where people upload objects.. so the desks, chairs, etc, etc on mine are all either built-in or downloaded - the only thing I drew were the comical "magical chests" that my dogs sleep in.
So.. it took a little getting used to, and there are still some quirks for getting things positioned etc... but I'm far from experienced with this stuff.. I'm relatively ok in photoshop, but besides that I've never used one of these programs before.

I've been working now at putting in the exterior walls and starting my whole plot of land (one of the main reasons I really wanted to do this, for some stuff outside). I've got the outline of the lot and the features inside my fence. Still have a lot of trees, the garage (just a blank block now), garden, etc to put in - but I thought I'd share what I have.
