Trouble with iTunes

A few weeks ago, I purchased my first iPod and I am absolutely loving it. However a few days ago, everytime I load up iTunes it freezes within a matter of seconds and I have to CTRL+ALT+DEL out of it so it does not completely slow my computer to a crawl.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but again the same thing happened. It's annoying because I haven't been able to update my podcasts over the past couple days and I don't know how to go about fixing the problem.

Any ideas?

what view do you start out in? How many songs?

I have about 4 gigs in songs.. I start off in the podcast screen, and I have a suspicion that maybe one of the podcasts I subscribe to are corrupted because shortly after it starts updating is when my iTunes freezes.
