I didn't want to do it today either, but we're expecting rain for the next few days which will make the grass problem worse.
I think I'm moving to Arizona, so I can have one of those gravel yards. :D

I have no yard. :) I have a condo in the city, and the building only has landscaping.

It's still driveway shoveling season around here. I'm tempted to write a dynasty about fixing my yard, it's that horrible. Basically I need a whole load of dirt for starters, and then need to repair a whole summers worth of leaf damage. The grass not being mowed for about 6 months is also going to be a major problem. Shit needs to be aerated and fertilized and bug killed. Gah, it makes me mad jsut thinking about it.

Not when you are giving a haircut to a 1.5 acre lawn via a push mower.

That's a glutton for punishment right there. I've got a .5 acre lot. Buzz through the entire yard in 25 minutes with a rider mower. More time with the kid as far as I'm concerned.

Anyone who wants to come use a riding mower on my lawn I dare them to. I live on the bottom of a side hill where all the water runs down from the houses above me.
The one time I tried to use my neighbors' rider (after 2 weeks of no rain) I almost flipped it. Low and behold my back yard was still muddy after 2 weeks of 90 degree weather. I tried going sideways on the grade and up and down it. Both ways I was going so slow that it was quicker for me just to push mow. I am in the process of cutting down some of the trees so the backyard gets more sunlight and dries out quicker.

Wow. That's kind of a crappy situation. I would look into building some sort of drainage system.

Nice. I will hopefully be redoing my kitchen and bathroom after my wedding in September.

My parents have a lot like that. They just turned it into a giant rock garden.

My lot is about that size. I did the push mower thing twice before I went out and bought the riding mower.

Don't have to mow the lawn because of the six inches of snow we got on Friday.

I finished the three day process of yard work this morning. I mow the front and back yards on Day 1, do the basic trimming and edging on Day 2, and on Day I have to break out the high-wheeled trimmer to get the areas that eat up lawnmower blades due to lots of rocks. All in all it takes between 6 to 10 hours to get it all taken care of.

Did mine yesterday for the first time this year. I kept saying I was going to hold out until May.
I much prefer snow shoveling to grass cutting. My theory is, once I am done shoveling, I might be done for a long while. But no matter when I cut the grass, I know I am cutting the shit the following week anyway.

How is mowing the yard hard, or even a pain? I think some people need some real manual labor.
Now, the bad part of this time of the year is the battle with ticks and fleas in the backyard with the dogs. It never ends. Maybe being home this year I can kick their ass once and for all.
Worked in the yard all day today. Looks nice but what a pain. Broke my shovel trying to dig up and move some bushes.
Took some pictures. If you want to see them, first post pictures of your bushes.
Yep.

We received a good 4 inches of snow just last Saturday but it's been a very nice week overall and it's melting a lot. It's been a crazy winter though and many things have been crushed by the huge amounts of snow that came on our heads, starting with my neighbour's out of the ground swimming pool. Came open at one side, not a nice sight to see. I'll try to take pictures tomorrow.

They drain the pool during winter thoug right? I small glacier moving through the neighborhood would be somewhat disturbing. :)

Yeah, they usually leave maybe 18 inches of water at the bottom. What usually happens is that the wall of the pool will tear on one side but won't completely open up, just like it did to my neighbour's pool. Something like 3 or 4 pillar on the outside of the pool simply gave up under the weight of the snow...

I know this is over a year old...but 5 times already for me this year. And it will now be a weekly or, if I just dont give a crap what it looks like, a bi-weekly chore.
At least my house this year doesnt have as much crap to edge & weed-eat around. Man...glad I'm out of my old house.

I just bought a brand new mower... Pretty slick-looking and easily powerful enough to handle my pathetic yard without breaking a sweat - I was actually excited to get out there. About halfway through I realized, new mower or not, yard work still sucks.

So does that mean when I'm up visiting Ft Leavenworth for work, I could see Michael Vick doing the lawn?
